I live in a cottage and I adore it.
I know it's not for everyone, but there's something appealing about the design quirks and vintage details.
Not to mention the way the entire dwelling just feels like it hugs me.

As a matter of fact, I'm such a fan of cottage living that this is actually my second one.
Both were built in the 1920's.
Both have been located in the same small beach community.
And, as expected, both of my historic homes have had tiny rooms.
The smallest being the bathrooms.
However.
Just because my rooms lack square footage, doesn't mean they can't be big on style.
Even in the bathrooms.

Nope, I can't fit a soaker tub for two or double sinks in my current en suite, but that doesn't mean it isn't jam packed with charming decor.
Trust me, I've squeezed as much style, color and flair as I possibly could into that compact space.
And I've done it in a way that doesn't make it feel cluttered or sacrifice function.
It simply makes me smile from every angle.
When we moved in, some twenty plus years ago, this bathroom was a hodgepodge of old and new.
Barely functional, we tore out the sweet original, but badly rusted, pedestal sink, old yellow toilet, painted the walls and added a really big mirror on the wall to open the space up.

Visually.
It took about a decade for us to rip everything out and give that bathroom a complete makeover.
White tiles, white walls and a dark vanity to anchor the space.
And I loved it.
For about another 10 years. That's when I decided that I needed a new vanity. One that had more space and forced me to bend down less.
I found one that fit, which is always a challenge, but it was so plain, this color loving girl just couldn't take it.
So I gave that vanity an update.
Then I gave it another.

That led me to swap out the fabric on the shuttered doors.
Which prompted me to make a new window valance...with pom poms.
And replace the bathroom door with a fabric covered French version.

Which is where I paused for bit.

Of course, since true decorating and home decor design is an ongoing process, when I saw these bathroom rugs, I thought a pop of color on the floor would be fun for a change.
I think they really warm up the room.
Then these hand towels from HomeGoods just happened to jump in my cart.

Apparently, some decor items just have a mind of their own.
It'd be lovely if they had a voice of their own, as well, because maybe then the thrifted frames I hung on the wall could tell me what would look good inside of them.
So far, they've been dressing up the walls with their green floral accents.

Empty on the inside.
Waiting for me to discover the perfect pictures to fit those tiny frames.
In the tiny bathroom.
In my tiny house.

That my iPhone can make look much larger with the click of a button.
If only it were that easy in real life.
😉

You have such a gift for decorating and adding charm! I do like what those rugs do to the room. And I think green is such a Springy color - looks cheerful and cozy!
ReplyDeleteLove all the updates. Our bathrooms are just as tiny. No updates other than a low flow toilet and costmetics like painting the vinyl floors and walls. I went with orange in one of the bathrooms and while it sounds like an unusual choise, it really brightens up the windowless space.
ReplyDeleteI love all the pretty changes you've made over the years to your bathroom! I agree, small space can have big style.
ReplyDeleteI don't have big style in my small bathroom, but as soon as the last one moves out, I'm working on it! I love the green and white in yours - so fresh!
ReplyDeleteYour cottage bathroom is so charming. It is the little touches that sets it apart. The French doors and the curtain on the vanity door. Love those touches. Green is always a soft and comfy color. Love it all Kim. Hugs. Kris
