It's fall! Yup, there's an exclamation point there folks. I know, I know, I have been sharing my sadness about the end of summer for weeks, so it's unexpected see me so excited about the season. What turned this frown upside down? Decor. Any chance to decorate makes me smile and now that the weather has started to turn a bit, it seemed appropriate to whip out the pumpkins.
Well, the drop in temps and the fact that Brenda, from Cozy Little House, was kind enough to ask me to join her Seasonal Harvest Tour. I had so much fun sharing my fall living room last year, that I jumped at the chance to be a part of it again.
I'm a pretty basic decorator when it comes to seasonal swaps, I do not go crazy. I have one tiny bucket of faux pumpkins and I purchase less than $10 of small real ones ~ it's enough to have a big impact on my space without wasting a tons of time setting up or breaking the bank.
That's my signature style, cheap and easy.
(Just don't tell my husband.)
Shall we tour?
Last week, I shared my living room, dressed for fall it was the setting for a romantic dinner for two.
When dinner was over, I moved my Pottery Barn Pumpkin plates back into the kitchen and popped them on the plate rack.
I made the farmhouse sign today.
I'm very smitten with it, so I have been sitting here all night just staring at my new view. I love fall evenings in this room. The lamps and candles cast a warm glow and it just feels cozy.
I know that I have shared this before, but that plate rack was given to us in exchange for a microwave cart when we moved out of our first apartment. The new tenant's dad actually made it from reclaimed wood. The microwave cart was from Kmart.
We definitely got the better end of that bargain.
I found the server at a local thrift store for $75. It's aged to perfection and once I replaced the Early American eagle drawer pulls, it fit right in.
It provides storage for many of my art supplies and it's the perfect backdrop for all my seasonal decor.
Around the corner, my new rooster pillow cover and a few more pumpkins provide a little seasonal sparkle...and I'm done!
Ten bucks and ten minutes to fall.
And now I'm missing summer just a little bit less.
Fabulous.
Now, I know you are eager to see what everyone else is sharing. So here are the links so you can take a peek.

ReplyDeleteLove that new rooster pillow too.
Kris
Thanks so much, Kris! I am smitten with the sign. The old one had been up there for almost 15 years! Yikes. It was time for a change. :)
Deletefall has always been my favorite season. years spent in the northeast probably.
ReplyDeletei love that red wall. it makes all your décor just sing!
Why thank you, Tammy. That wall is very red, no doubt, but honestly, I can't get enough of it! :)
DeleteWe had red kitchen walls a few homes ago and it totally warmed up the room. Love your red!
ReplyDeleteI do love the red, Pepper, thanks! It’s a nice contrast to all the white in the rest of the room. Happy fall! :)
DeleteYour home is so lovely, cozy, and welcoming Kim! Your plate rack and server are so pretty...and I love the way the little white pumpkin looks against the red transferware!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. I appreciate your kind words! :)
DeleteHi Kim, Love all your styling for fall here against the red walls. Beautiful and your newly created Farmhouse sign is wonderful. Love it!! Such a cozy home for fall. Thank you for sharing. xo
ReplyDeleteThanks for peeking Celestina Marie! I do love that sign. It was a long overdue change. Happy fall!!

ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn! It does make everything pop!!
DeleteHi Kim, your fall decor looks so pretty! I love the pumpkin plates and the chicken pillow! Enjoy the end of the week and weekend.
ReplyDeleteJulie xo
That chicken pillow cover was so cheap, Julie!! The PB plates were not! ;) Worth the splurge though. I use them from late September to early December. Money well spent. Happy Fall!
DeleteWhen I think about it, I can't remember any other blogger still having red walls, and for that I salute you! I think they look fantastic, and so does your fall look. (I never have gotten around to painting a red wall, and now I live in an apartment and can't...)
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Haha! I know, definitely not on trend! I am a hold out and very set in my ways (I still have a floral couch in my den!). I painted that wall a solid decade before I started blogging, back in 2003. I have been in love with it ever since. It warms up the kitchen, which is really mostly white and windows, especially in the fall and winter when the trees are bare...besides, I think it would take like 10 coats of paint to cover it up!! Ha!! ;) Thanks Brenda!
DeleteI love the little mini almost-white pumpkins! Good job!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Those little white cuties get me every time! ;)
DeleteOh, I love your style. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe plates are so fun. Do you have plates for each season?
Thanks, Carla! I have Christmas plates, but none for Easter or Thanksgiving. Maybe I need some! ;)
DeleteI still have a red dining room and love it. I stick with what I like despite the trends and glad to see that you do too.
ReplyDeleteBig Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
Red lover's unite, Susan! ;) In all seriousness, I have tried to go neutral, but I always miss the drama that color brings to the table.
DeleteVery lovely, Kim. It's warm and cozy and definitely celebrates the season ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cecilia!
DeleteKim the red walls give off such warmth and coziness. That's why I love your blog you do not follow the all neutral trends. That dish rack certainly was the better half of the deal!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary, apparently I am a rebel!! ;)
DeleteI just love your warm red walls!!! Perfect for fall - OK, I realize you don't repaint them for every season, but they just look so pretty with your fall decor :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, Pam, trust me there are times when I think about that. As a matter of fact this spring I said to my husband, “Sometimes, I wish there was a way to lighten this up for the summer.” He turned me around to face the rest of the kitchen which is all white and said, “Done.” Funny guy. ;)
Deleteyour layered table ware looks gorgeous- what a lovely setting!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cassie! We really need to eat in there more often... :)
DeleteThat plate rack! You lucked out!
ReplyDeleteWe really did!! :)
DeleteEverything looks really nice. Especially liking the farmhouse sign♥
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! The sign was so easy to make....
DeleteIt all looks lovely ! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are very kind, Deb!
DeleteSuch a talent you are . . .
ReplyDeleteAmazingly beautiful, in ten minutes for less than $10 . . .
And the best in warm, cozy, comfortable!
Thanks Lynne. I used to go crazy when I was younger, but the older I get the more I appreciate the less is more concept...the less time and money I spend on decor, the more of it I have to enjoy other things in my life.
DeleteBeautiful Kim! Have always loved that plate rack ever sine I came to your blog. Glad you didn't paint it. Like your new sign too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Florence. I'm a big fan of natural wood, especially when it's reclaimed like that. :)
DeleteI ADORE your home, Kim! Maybe because it feels.....well, like HOME to me? Everything looks amazing, as always....and yes, you most definitely got the better end of the deal with that plate rack!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! And yes, we definitely have the same style. I just wish I had your views and your neighbors. ;)
DeleteSo many rich and cozy colors around your home!
ReplyDeleteI am definitely a color girl! Thanks for the visit and happy fall! :)
DeleteYour home looks very warm and welcoming for fall! Love your red walls.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Melanie. I just can't get enough of that red...even after all these years. ;)
DeleteI love your decorating with white and ivory plates, candles, etc. I love to use whites also...Your home looks so pretty. I once had a room with red walls in our other house and I loved it. Sheila
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sheila. I love bold contrast, so that wall makes me smile! :)
DeleteThose red walls!! Love, love, love. Cracked me up how you said I made that sign today. You know, to those of us who are not so crafty that's a big deal! I don't blame you for staring at its glory. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stacey, I love, love, love them, too! As far as the sign goes, it's was so easy. I am posting about it next week and I promise you will laugh when you see how easy this one is...

ReplyDeleteI love how you have styled yours:)
Everything looks so charming, cozy, inviting and gorgeous. If your home could talk it would say welcome!
Happy Fall!
Jemma
Thank you so much, Jemma. I don't think I could part with those two walls, they really warm up the kitchen. It balances all of the white and windows on the other side of the room. It's good for fall for sure! :)
DeleteYour farmhouse sign is perfect!!! And yep, you definitely got the better end of the deal with that exchange! #winning :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa. I know, we were so young back then and so was the other couple. My husband and I were like, yeah, I guess that sounds fair. We didn’t even have a place for it and it sat in storage for years, until we added on to the first house. Now I realize what a true treasure it is. :)
DeleteNice decor! Loving all the red ♥
ReplyDeleteThank you, Summer! :)
DeleteWhat a great swap. I love when that happens. Such a cozy living room spot.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Katie...and yes, we got very lucky! :)
DeleteKim, so pretty and warm. I know what you mean about a red room. Since we painted our dining room I love to light the candles and sit and rock all night long. If that doesn't say "grandma", I don't know what would. I could stay there forever..Happy Weekend..Judy
ReplyDeleteJudy, you are too sweet and I know exactly where you are coming from. I too have a rocking chair and sometimes just sit and stare at the pretty by the light of the candle glow. I may not be a grandma, but I am a great aunt, several times over, so I suppose it's fitting behavior! ;) Here's to a cozy weekend full of rocking my friend!
DeleteYour decorating style is just so cozy and delightful. I love it! A few pumpkins, a rooster pillow, and you're done, wow! I love your farmhouse sign. Did you do a tutorial for it? I want to make some signs for my garden, and just need to get busy doing it. I would just be sitting and enjoying the cozy in your home too, just delightful! Have a blessed weekend :)
ReplyDeleteMarilyn, you are so kind. Thank you for all of your sweet words. I am going to do a tutorial on the sign next week. It was soo ridiculously easy. A little messy, but easy. I hope you have a wonderful weekend in your own lovely and cozy home. Enjoy your "girls"! You know they make me smile! :)
DeleteThat plate rack and farmhouse sign are simply gorgeous! What a great deal you got. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Cristina! I know, we did get a deal! :) Thanks for the visit.
DeleteWhat a nice, warm, welcoming bit of fall in the house there, Kim. It feels like home! I really love the richness of the red walls this time of year. It's just perfect. I can almost smell spice in the air there.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend- xo Diana
Thank you, Diana. It is a great room in the fall. All that red really warms up the kitchen when the leaves fall outside! :)

ReplyDeleteThank you, Karen. It was a super easy sign to make. :)
DeleteHappy fall!
A very sweet retreat for all those cozy, fall days ahead of us, Kim. So proud of you for going with the flow, and welcoming autumn into your home, despite your love for summer!
ReplyDeletePoppy
Like Doreen said, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! haha! Happy fall, Poppy!
DeleteVery nice! Less is definitely more! All is so cozy. I just love Fall and all the colors, which you have year round!
ReplyDeleteThanks AnnMarie...yes, I always say that I love, love, love summer, but I really have a winter home! Funny how that works out! ;)
DeleteYour beautiful fireplace, your rich red walls and your farmhouse decorations are just simply perfect for Autumn. Like you, I've given up on summer and embraced the season. If you can't beat em, join em ;).
ReplyDeleteI can't find Mother Nature, Doreen...but it doesn't mean I haven't tried! ;-)
DeleteIt's all very cosy and it has a warm feeling. I really like those white pumpkins. They just look fun. I have never seen them in the stores in town and I couldn't help wondering what do they taste like or are they just for decor?
ReplyDeleteI have never used them for anything but decor, Ronda. However, I have heard that you can east some varieties of white pumpkin. Good question!! It has never crossed my mind. You can tell I'm no chef! ;)
DeleteLovely as always, Kim, and I love your plate rack. You definitely got the better end of the bargain.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristi! I know...I almost feel a little bit guilty about it now! ;)
