This is my first Christmas with a blog and I understand that it is customary to post a holiday home tour.
However, what I'm going to share is really more of a targeted home décor tour than a full house extravaganza.
I love all the colors and the lights, but as the years go by, I find that I spend less time filling every corner of every room with stuff and I only put out what I really, really love.
Exhibit A.
She plays Santa Claus Is Coming To Town and her head nods round and round like she is sleepy. Santa brought her for my when I was tiny and she's made an appearance every year since.
I've weeded out things that felt junky or that didn't hold a sentimental or aesthetic appeal.
If I no longer LOVE it, it no longer gets displayed.
I notice my cherished items more now, as they no longer have to fight for attention and I spend A LOT less time decorating.
That has left me with more time to truly enjoy the season.
Of course, I still love looking at all the houses that are completely transformed during this magical season, mine is just no longer one of them.
I still think it's dressed with enough sparkle, Santas and that glorious color red to invoke the excitement of the season, but I'll let you be the judge.
I guess it's only fitting to start with my tree. It is not stylized or themed in any way at all.
They were purchased on a fun family outing as a remembrance.
Our tree tells the story of our family better than a photo album or home movies ever could. To me, it represents our history and it's gorgeous.
It's very at home during the Christmas season.
This year I added a snowflake pillow and I plan to make new stockings, but we'll see.
*Update~ We had a snow day and made the stockings!
I just adore a simple strand of twinkle lights.
During the holidays, I add a couple of mini wreaths for company and an easy sign on my stove hood.
White flowers are elegant in any season.
And I'm crazy for Santa Claus...and anything red!
It takes so little to add Christmas spirit in here!
Kitchen towels look great in the bathroom, too.
I mean a towel is a towel no matter what room it's in!
The master gets a quilt change and few precious additions, but honestly, the sign over the bed personifies my style lately~ even at Christmas!
The tree was given to me by kids years ago.
It looks perfect in here during the holidays.
The family room used to get wreaths in the window, but this year, I opted for an advent calendar garland.
It's working out really well so far, we are all enjoying it!
Of course, there are a few other seasonal touches peppered around the house, a random reindeer, a tree in the finished basement, you get the idea, but I have shared the basic high points....and a lot of red!
It's no wonder that this is my favorite time of year.
Merry Christmas to all and to all...well, you know! ;)
So this year was all about red...check out my rustic style Christmas here.
Your home just glows and shines Kim!!! Love all the whimsy little details all around!
ReplyDeleteThanks Vel, you are always the first one to comment and you always make me smile! :)
DeleteI love your decorations! Like you, I love decorations that are meaningful. My tree looks so much like yours...tall and skinny with ornaments I have collected all through my life. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debby, we bought that tree almost 20 years ago, for our first Christmas together in our tiny apartment. When we moved to our first tiny house, it still fit well, so we kept it...now in our second (still tiny) house it still looks just as grand...and skinny trees are hard to find! :) Merry Christmas! :)
DeleteYour home looks so warm with all the Christmas touches! I love all the red. I also love all the "little things" in the bathrooms and bedrooms. Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteSometimes, the little things have the most impact! Thanks for the comment, Courtney!
DeleteYou have a lovely home -thank you for sharing your Christmas decorations~
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by to take a peek, Susan. Happy Holidays! :)
DeleteIt all looks wonderful, Kim! I'm with you on keeping it more simple and just using the things you love and have meaning. Have a happy holiday season!
ReplyDeleteJoAnne, thanks for the lovely comment and, yes, I do appreciate my simple decorations a lot more now! Happy Holidays!
DeleteYour home is absolutely beautiful! I, too, love red year-round. As I am older now (58) it takes everything I can muster up to decorate a tree. So, what did my husband want to do this year? Decorate TWO trees - hahahaha. Thank you for sharing the beauty of your home. It is truly an inspiration :-)
ReplyDeleteCate <><
Two trees are better than one Cate, especially if someone else is willing to do all the heavy lifting! :) Thanks so much for your very kind words! Merry Christmas!
DeleteYour home looks so beautiful, warm and inviting.....all dressed up for the holiday season:) I love the snowflake pillow in your living room and all the little holiday accents....everything looks exquisitely remarkable:) Have a wonderful holiday season! Hugs, Poppy
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Poppy I grabbed that pillow at Marshall's...I usually make my own, but that one was too pretty to pass up! :)
DeleteYour home is very pretty! I love the den with the beams on the ceiling and the stone fireplace. I loved the long ribbon on the wreath and at first thought you purposely draped it like that for style, then I read you were concealing the wires. GREAT IDEA! You may have cut back and simplified, but it looks very stylish and cheerful to me.
ReplyDeleteKelly, thanks so much! I hate those wires! Electrical cords are my nemesis when it comes to decorating in general. If I ever renovate my kitchen again (I will not!) or build a home, I will certainly be positioning the outlets with my home décor needs in mind! :)
DeleteLove it....a lot of people always over do it so that it's way to much....I love how you decorated yours, with treasures.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Thank you Christine. I think I was guilty of going overboard in the past, but I am much happier with my "treasured" results now! Glad you liked it! :)
DeleteHi and wow how beautiful your Christmas decorations are! Thanks for the tour of your house it is so pretty! I love the living room and you have a beautiful tree! The advent calendar is so sweet and special. Enjoy the holidays.

DeleteI love your house! It's really pretty even without the Christmas decor, but then that adds even more beauty. I love how you put the lights up with the window valances, I might have to add that in my kitchen. I host a weekly link party that used to be just for vintage things, but starting this Tuesday I'm expanding it to include anything home-related, I'd love it if you'd join in! DeleteYou've done such a great job of sprucing up your home for Christmas, Kim. I think the tree is perfect; it reflects your love for family, each ornament is a memory. That's as it should be. Your kitchen is so cheery. Love the red and white in your living room. I'd pretty much love living in your cottage. (Have I already told you that?) That fireplace, those exposed beams. All the windows and natural light.Yup, it's all exactly what I dream of. So inviting, warm and charming. Love it all!
