It's finally blue!!
I have stated many times that when it comes to décor, I get bored very easily, so I like to change things up often.
That said, what I usually change up is accessory pieces, rugs, bedding, curtains, pillows. I tend to be married to wall color and furniture for a good long time.
Those are the staple pieces, I know what colors I am partial to and with a few accessory swaps a room can look dramatically different.
Alas, not everyone thinks the same way.
Some people are not happy with a handful of simple substitutions. They require big changes, complete renovations.
Although thinking back, my daughter was pretty set on a blue bedroom from the beginning. I should've listened, but she was two and I was operating under the delusion that I was in charge and she would come around.
Never try to argue with a Taurus!
I had a baby girl and wanted a pink room...and like I said, she was two.
So I won.
The house came with an awful green carpet, we were so overwhelmed renovating everything else, that we left it.
I worked around it and painted a thick rose vine border right below the ceiling to set a garden theme. I thought the room looked super sweet.
Certain people disagreed on a daily basis.
This is where we started...so sweet.
I swapped out bedding and curtains for the seasons throughout the years, but essentially the room remained the same.
Not willing to invest the time or money needed to bring it fully up to tween speed, I invested in a modified makeover, starting with new bedding from JC Penney.
I love their bedding, I can shop online ~ easy store returns, no shipping.
We ripped up the carpet, put down a cotton braided area rug and headed to Ikea for some new furniture to replace her hand me down dresser and beds.
We went with the Hemnes set in white.
She no longer needed the extra bed (sleepovers were moved to the basement), but desperately needed a desk for homework and, eventually, make up.
The room is very small, Pottery Barn pieces, our first choice, were way too large and frankly they were too pricey for this bargain-minded mama.
I also used to work there and buying anything without my 40% employee discount hurts way too much.
I thought this makeover would buy me some time...I was wrong.
Then one night, very handy daddy decided that he was also sick of that half re-done room and he was willing to do the room up right and to her specifications.
So the bedroom was painted, crown molding was added with this great trick, lamps and rugs were swapped out and little miss finally got her blue.
However, I refused to replace the relatively new bedding. It really looked great and I liked it.
The bedding was just not cutting it.
Well, that didn't last long either. We were in Marshall's together (favorite store of all time) and we both fell in love with a new quilt.
Neither one of us could resist and it was a deal. I wrapped a new ribbon on her teddy bear's neck and one around the plain white lamp and voila. Blue paradise.
The room is still a work in progress.
I need to tape those nasty cords to the back of the nightstand, the rug needs to be taped down to the floor. It needs some wall art and a few more accessories.
Ta-Da! For now...
I actually really like it.
And more importantly, so does she.
What can I say? The kid was right about the blue all along.
What do you think?
Which one is your favorite?
I really liked your transformation!!! I do like the blue much better, especially without the green carpet.

Thanks Tammi! I HATED that green carpet~ I am so happy it's gone!
DeleteBlue! But what do I know, I live in a house with 4 men!
ReplyDeleteI fought her like crazy, since the house is a ranch and the bedroom is very visible. Most of the house is decorated in reds, yellows and greens. I really didn't think the blue would go, but it does look great! I am sure you have lots of blue rooms!!
DeleteI love that color combo! blue yellow and white are my favorite mixes of color.
