Creative Valentine's Day Centerpiece Ideas

Before I started blogging I never really decorated for Valentine's Day.

My holiday decor stash included few well worn preschool handprint hearts and paper flowers.


Of course, once I found this incredibly creative online decorating community, things changed.

In a big way.

From that moment on, my February home was bursting with even more red, if possible.

And tons of handmade Valentine decorations.

This year is no exception.

As a matter of fact, this year, I've been Valentine crafting up a storm.

Today's share is thanks to trip to Dollar Tree.

I went in for a few of their command style hooks and came out with two glass cylinder vases. How cute are they?


While I didn't have any definitive DIY ideas in mind when I left the store, once I got home, I couldn't keep up with what my brain was throwing at me.

I started by gathering up supplies I thought I might be able to use to create some fun centerpieces. Things like the red glitter hearts I picked up for 50% off.


The felt conversation hearts, that I saw on my friend Ricki Jill's pretty Valentine table. 

I think I paid less than $2 for them since they were on sale and I had rewards money.

Some wired ribbon...in red, of course.

And a bottle lampshade I picked up before Christmas.

It's become my new favorite DIY accessory.

But I started with the most obvious and easiest way to use these heart covered glasses.

As candle holders.

No surprise here, since there are so many ways to display candles in glass. In the past I've filled vases like this with water and floated candles inside.

I've also decorated them with stickers and glitter and popped in a battery operated pillar.

However, this time I played with my remote candles, the ones that look like they were already in a container, and dropped them in the vases.

Then I placed them on top of a glass pedestal, surrounded by other candles and roses for some simple holiday flair.


I coupled them with a brass candle holder on my table.


And paired them with a second glass Valentine vase.


One dressed with ribbon, filled with those glitter hearts and faux flowers.

Yup, flowers. Another obvious choice.


Although, since I'm a sucker for real flowers...I just couldn't resist a bright bouquet at the grocery store.

Again, I paired them with red ribbons and more of those sparkly hearts, this time spilled haphazardly in the kitchen nook.

The green stems and colorful petals made a festive statement.


And a pretty, if not predictable, holiday centerpiece.

What's not so predictable, is the addition of my lighted lampshade.

That little number turned my ordinary glass vase into a accent lamp.

One I filled with the same candle to illuminate that nook at night.


And with those candy colored, felt hearts to light up my living room. I mean come on.

How sweet can you get?

(Psst--- it can actually get even sweeter. Wait until you see what I did with those hearts!)


Although, to be honest, I haven't been able to pick a favorite look.

Those vases are quite versatile. I've been quite smitten with all my displays.

At the moment, however, my table looks like this.


Simple, elegant and full of that red I love so much.

Which makes it perfect for Valentine's Day.

And even more perfect for me.
