Well, it looks as if the dog days of summer have truly arrived, and I for one, have been enjoying every hazy, hot and humid minute of them.
Which is why my normal weekend chat to welcome the new month, is a day late.
Or dodging downpours and lightning strikes. Scary.
Although, I must admit, I do love the rainbows that show up after.
I guess that's the perfect way to describe August overall...at least in my neck of the woods.
Full of contradictions.
It starts out with dreamy days made for nothing but swimming.
But the end of the month? Eh...not so much.
It definitely feels like fall.
The school buses start their practice runs. The garden starts to lose some of its bold color.
Yes, yes, I know all you fall lovers jump for joy over that same dead, crunchy leaf, but not this girl.
I'm summer through and through.
Of course, it doesn't mean I don't enjoy fall. It's actually my second favorite season. It's the neverending winter around here that throws me...but I digress.
Where were we?
Oh yes, August.
Well before we get to any Exquisitely Unremarkable plans for the upcoming month, let's take a peek back at July. If you recall, I had a long list of projects I wanted to get to...and frankly, I was able to share quite a few.
- I hung plates in the kitchen and used others to make a lovely dessert platter
- I finally revealed my French door in the bathroom
- The family room got a new red rug - of course
- I shared a muffin tin upcycle during our Do It Over Designer's Hop
- And updated my closet doors in the simplest way possible
And, by the skin of my teeth, I whipped up a Christmas in July, DIY using a clearance priced kids craft.
Busy, busy, busy. I guess I made up for all the nothing I shared in June! Believe it or not, I still had plenty of time for fun, including a visit to Delaware...
We even got to meet the cows who contributed the main ingredient! Have I mentioned that I'm a huge fan of cows?
Especially when they're handing out ice cream. 😉 Which I hope to eat more of in August.
I also hope to do more thrifting this month. I'd like to start the major construction on my dollhouse renovation.
Finish sharing the list of things I didn't get to in July and start a few more crafty projects and continue my journey to get in better shape.
I actually bought myself this Apple watch to do so. It was lovely. And I kept it a total of 24 hours.
My daughter adores hers, but it was just too fancy for me. Too many buttons and calls that everyone could hear and text that was too tiny to read. Nope. Not for this gal.
I'm trying to make my life less complicated not more.
So instead, I bought this fitness tracker watch. WAY cheaper and I love it.
Perfect.
I've also vowed to unplug and read more, like in past summers.
I'm starting with an old book, but one my daughter and her friends recommended. It's called The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult.
My daughter is an avid reader and she said it was the best book she's ever read. From her description it sounds like it's right up my alley.
Next up is one called The Maid by Nita Prose.
I'm sure for you readers out there, these books are old news, but I'm excited to dive in.
Oh...and that brings us back to the pool again, doesn't it?
Perfect timing, since I'm all suited up.
But before you go, if you have any good books to share let me know.
I'll need something to do once those rain showers show up again.
From what I've heard, this week we're in for a bunch.
😉
Do you have any big plans for this month?
Happy August, Friends!
Hello Friend, Oh goodness, yes, summer is going, going, going....
ReplyDeleteWe went kayaking this past weekend. And have more kayaking days on the August calendar. :-)
Carla
Oh that sounds like fun, Carla! It's on our list for this month, too. How fun it would be to do it together!
DeleteSchool starts for the children in our neighborhood Wednesday! I like your cute muffin tin makeover. I need to find some of the flameless candles! Let me know what you think about the books. The Maid is my Book Club's October Selection! :D I'm with you: I'm a summer girl!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, Wednesday! I feel like school just got out here, but school supplies are already on the shelf and even though I have been in a classroom in decades, I still find myself buying notebooks. Haha!
DeleteI'm so with you on the whole summer thing! I'm taking my granddaughters out tomorrow for our annual shoe shopping before school starts. Can't believe it's time already!
ReplyDeleteI love Jodi Piccoult and enjoyed that book. The Maid looks really good. I'm marking it down to read.
Enjoy August!
I’m holding onto summer with two hands, Mari! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed The Storyteller. I’m looking forward to it.
DeleteI am with you on being a summer girl and wanting summer to last a little while longer. I love fall but am just not there yet. The storyteller sounds like a good read. Can't wait to hear what you think of it. Two more weeks until our move and I will have three pools to enjoy. Hoping to have a little time with the pools before the end of the season. Have a great week. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteSummer is my time of the year! I do love it although this summer has been so exceptionally hot ( in the upper 90's everyday) that I have not been enjoying the outdoors as much as usual. I'll look into the book The Maid- thanks for the suggestion. I love the cup cake holder idea for the candles - that would be fun on the deck. I always feel that we get the best farm produce in August! Enjoy the rest of the summer.
ReplyDeleteAugust hits a bit different for me since all my peeps are grown. I did notice yesterday that there are already leaves scattered across my deck, and I'm excited for cool weather. We have had a very mild summer and I am finishing up my summer list and thinking ahead to the holidays...(:
ReplyDeleteI'm like you - love summer! Not looking forward to crunchy leaves (or pumpkin spice) anytime soon. I'll take every minute of summer that I can get.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a smart watch or fitness watch or whatever names they all go by now, lol. Don't want one. I not only hate anything tight and bulky on my wrist (never even liked wrist watches when we all wore them at one time), but I have no desire to be checking any more screens than I already do on my phone (which is too much). I do sometimes keep my phone on me most of the day just so I can check my steps, out of curiosity. Looks like you've been doing some good reading. Same here! Wish I had a pool to lounge in while reading my book. My patio will have to make do. ;-)
You sure had a busy month, Kim and summer is rushing by. Oh, how I will miss it in January! I've read both of your books - great reads. Enjoy!
