A Sunday Chat In March

Well hello friends and Happy March!

The weather is warming up, spring is just a few days away and I'm smiling.

I hope you are, too!

February was chilly and snowy month. Aside from a few small road trips, I spent most of it cuddled up in front of the fire, watching old movies, so I'm more than ready for crocuses, sunshine and short sleeves.

I just hope Mother Nature and that groundhog have had a nice little chat and are both on the same page. 😉

In anticipation of spring's grand arrival, I've been making some changes around here, inside, as I impatiently wait for it to show up outside.

Of course, between my temperamental sewing machine, our new car that turned out to be a lemon (long story!) and those charming old movies, I haven't had a chance to share any of it with you.

I hope to remedy that in March.

In the meantime, I can give you a few sneak peeks.

A few years ago, my friend Brenda from Cozy Little House, shared a glimpse of some beautiful rose covered dishes and I haven't been able to get them out of my head since.

Well, turns out they're vintage Country Living plates and are quite literally impossible to find. I searched everywhere for years.

Then a few months ago, I found them, on Etsy...but they were more than this dollar store and thrifting shopper usually shells out for plates. So I passed.

Silly girl.

Fast forward to Valentine's Day and as the clock struck (almost) midnight I put them in my cart, used a few coupons and bought them from the loveliest seller.

And I couldn't be happier with them. They are GORGEOUS.

There is one set left that I've been tempted to grab, but so far I'm sticking with my four.

I still don't know where I'm going to hang them or how I'm going to showcase them, but you can bet they'll have a prominent place in my home.

Next up, I replaced some carpets.

After the hallway makeover I went with white rugs, then burgundy oval braids. However, as this winter got darker and darker, I craved the light.

I purchased these braided area rugs instead and wow, what a difference.

They pop and really brighten up that windowless space. It naturally prompted another project, that I haven't completed yet, but hope to finish up soon.

I also went thrifting and found some very cool treasures, including a trio of oval frames, that I can't wait to update and display.

I'm excited to get crafting with this 2-pack of round canvases I found for $5, too.

Round Stretched Canvases for painting

There's something about round artwork that screams cottage style.

By month's end I was finally about to get my act together with that confusing pile of fabric I mentioned last month. It prompted a bigger than expected makeover in my bathroom.

And a mini transformation in one of my girls' bedrooms.

That's where my diva of a sewing machine came into play. The one that had me tearing my hair...and more than a few stitches...out in February.

I do have several more fabric DIYs to complete in March, but I'm speaking nicely and crossing my fingers that it'll be more compliant

I had hoped to get to a little Easter decor, but so far all I've managed to do is buy this darling bunny at HomeGoods.

Wooden Bunny With Floral Carvings

Instead, I'll be pulling out the old stuff and hanging it up.

I really wanted to make an Easter wreath like this, but the supplies were pricier than buying it, so I ordered this two pack and will hang one on each door.

Sadly, sometimes crafting just doesn't pay.

I think that's about it folks.

Now, I'm off to take a walk on this almost 60 degree day.

Sixty.

Fabulous.

Happy March!!

What are your plans for the month?

  1. It's been a difficult winter in more ways than one, and I'm sorry about the struggles you've had with your car. We've been playing games here with spring and winter - now we are getting more winter in March than we've had since January, lol! Your plates are absolutely gorgeous!!! I love them! You will enjoy them so much! I love the new red rugs on your floor, they add a perfect touch! Yes, even me who loves winter so much - is ready for spring! :)

    1. Hi Marylin! It’s so funny, the weather hasn’t been brutal, like in the past, but yes, winter still had its share of difficulties..that car being one of them. However, the manufacturer has been great about it, just a lot of paperwork to untangle the sale. Lots of good too, including those pretty plates! It doesn’t take much to make this girl smile. Just add red! 😉 I hope you have wonderful new week and spring hurries along to beautiful mountains. Thanks so much for stopping by!!

  2. I think you have done a great job: Window treatment for daughter, pretty braided rugs for halls, and a very unusual but special bunny. Plus those red floral plate. I think you have done very well.

  3. It hit 64 here today and I'm having Spring Fever too. I know snow will come again, but I'm sure enjoying this.
I have tomorrow off and hope to get a little Spring decor out.
I'm so sorry about the new car that turned out to be a lemon. Car troubles are the worse, and even more awful in a new car.
    I like your new rugs!
    The plates are gorgeous!!!

  4. We have been in the high 70's the last few days. It has been so great. We still have March and April to get through but it looks like the Spring will come in nicely. We could still get snow but with how little we had this winter I doubt we will get much. Hope by writing that I did not jinx it.
Love the plates they are so pretty. I saw some beautiful blue roses plates at Home Goods and thought about buying them. Do I need anymore plates no but I know you get it lol! Have a great week ahead. Hugs. Kris

  5. Hello and Happy March,
I started some seeds. They are slow to germinate... so it is a good project for me to help me with my Spring Fever. Our weather has been NUTS!! We enjoyed temps in the high 60's yesterday and it snowed over an inch today. HA!
    I love the plates.

    1. It's nuts here, too, Carla! I'm back in two sweaters today and my fuzzy slippers. Boo! I love the sound of seeds though. I know you wouldn't be starting them if spring weren't truly on the horizon!! ❤️

  7. Kim, I'm sorry to hear about the car and the sewing machine. I hope both problems get solved. The new plates and the rug are gorgeous. I love the new valance you made in your daughters room. The pattern is just so pretty and reminds me of spring. It's so nice the way you spruce things up in your house for spring. I love those easter eggs you made! I hope you enjoy the month of March.

    1. I always get the urge to lighten things and spruce up the house in spring. That fabric was just the right way to do it.

  8. Kim,
Thanks so much for taking time to visit!! Love some of the changes that you share....I did get a lot done in February like cleaning out closets, drawers and cupboards, plus I cleaned and rearranged 3 of my 4 curios....Sorry about the car...We had a car once that was nickel and diming us to death so we traded it it in and got another car that was so much better....Have a great weekend!!

    1. Hi Deb! Thanks for popping over. Ugh, the car was a mess, but honestly, the process to get rid of it has just been time consuming, but not terrible. Still waiting for the check, but hopefully, it's coming soon!! Have a great weekend!
