I made a spider wreath for Halloween from a dollar store splatter screen.
It's a quick and easy holiday craft to brighten your home and make the little ones smile.
You know the kind, lots of cousins, aunts and uncles.
And food. Everywhere.
With so many amazing cooks in our kitchen, there was no shortage of delicious treats and it was impossible to pick a favorite.
So I'd load my plate up to the point where my grandmother would give me a raised eyebrow and mutter something in Italian that loosely translates into your eyes are bigger than your stomach.
And she wasn't wrong, I couldn't finish it all.
Turns out, I don't just eat that way, I craft that way, too.
Here it is, almost Halloween, and I have more spooky home decor DIYs than I have time to share them.
As a matter of fact, the craft I have for you today, is one I completed last year.
Yup.
I'm that behind.
However, since there are a few more days until the trick or treaters show up, I figured, why not share it. Besides, I thought you might need a break from all the Christmas trees popping up.😉
A little backstory. In 2019, I created a fall wreath of sorts, from a Dollar Tree splatter screen. And it was a huge hit.
Honestly, I was shocked. For the past several years, every fall, it becomes my most popular post.
A splatter screen folks.
Well, among the comments I received was one from a reader asking how they could create something, maybe for the kids, with a splatter screen.
Immediately, I thought about spiders.
How To Make A Spatter Screen Spider Wreath
This is an easy way to add a bit of spooky Halloween decor to your home.
Supplies:
You could make your wreath super scary, or silly, since there are all kinds of rubber spiders out there, but I went for a glam look with lots of sparkle.
I bought all of my supplies at the Dollar Tree while I was picking up some fall decor.
- Splatter screen
- Faux spider webs
- Large glitter spiders
- Orange glitter ribbon
- Glue gun - I had this on hand
- Glue sticks
The Process:
I started by unwrapping all my supplies, including my splatter screen.
Then I opened my spider web and cut away a decent sized piece with scissors.
Next, I used my hands to pull it apart and wrap it around the mesh area of the splatter screen.
When I was happy with the coverage, I flipped my screen over and anchored the web to metal frame on the back with hot glue.
If there were any bare spots, I repeated the process until the screen was nicely covered.
The last time I made this type of decor, I didn't cover the plastic handle and lots of people suggested that I should.
So this time I wrapped the handle with an orange glitter ribbon.
I made a bow with my Bowdabra Bow Maker for some extra holiday flair.
I mixed some of my fancy spiders in with the ones that came with the fake spider web and glued them onto the front of the screen, again, with hot glue.
Very whimsical.
Very inexpensive.
And bound to give the kids a giggle.
While they collect their candy.
With eyes bigger than their stomachs.
😉

ReplyDeleteYou just made my day!! Thanks!!
DeleteKim I absolutely love this craft. The bow and the covered handle takes it up a notch. So clever!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan!! Lots of people really wanted me to cover the handle last time around, so this time, it was on the top of my list!! Thanks for noticing...and for the sweet visit and comment.
DeleteThat's adorable, Kim. Spiders are not my favorite creature, but since they are 'Glam Spiders', I guess it's OK!
ReplyDeleteYes, glam...that's the only way I could do it, Ann, since spiders are generally on my "don't" list!! Happy Halloween!!
DeleteThis is so cute! I'm going to pass it along to my friend who likes making holiday crafts.
ReplyDeleteThanks Melanie! It was a fun one to make, even if it's not my usual style...spiders...yikes!! Happy Halloween!
DeleteWell miss crafty crafter this is so cute. I am afraid of spiders so when we have spiders we have to burn the house down lol! Funny how you hung it near the fireplace lol! Super cute. Happy new week and Happy Halloween. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteI hate spiders, Kris...I would rather pet a snake than see a spider. Making this one was a stretch for me, but happily, this arachnid filled wreath doesn't live here anymore! So I'm safe. Haha! Happy Halloween!! xo
DeleteKim, you made the cutest Halloween spider wreath. I love how easy it is to make and it look so festive. Have a happy Halloween.
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie! This was a fun one and much more sparkly than the spiders I usually find around the house! Happy Halloween!!
DeleteSuper cute Kim. I can't stand spiders. The one bug that freaks me out. Kiddos would love this.🕷
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Cindy! I am not a fan...in general, but since these had glitter, I figured they were ok. Kind of...
DeleteAnother great idea for our Pumpkin Carving Party decor. Thank you!! I will be crafting. :-)
ReplyDeleteI've always been a bit of an arachnophile so your really clever spider wreath is right up my alley. And they got little glitter bums which makes them even more perfect
