July.
Whoa.
I'm still writing 2022 more often than not, and yet, we've just entered the second half of the new year.
And it's officially summer.
I mean, get it together, Kim.
Oh well, perhaps the second six months of this year will slow down a bit.
Although, I'm not counting on it.
😉
I'm not complaining though, summer, after all, is my very favorite season. I live on an island and at the beach, so there's truly no better time of the year around here.
Hot days, sun, sand, pool, fun fashion. What's not to love?
Although, this year, summer was ushered into my home by some awful virus that just won't let go.
I spent the first two days of the season in bed and the rest of them, so far, trying to find enough energy to stay out of it.
Blech.
But to be honest, several of those missed beach days were shrouded underneath Canadian wildfire smoke that, thanks to Mother Nature, has decided to spend some of its summer vacation in my neck of the woods.
I mean it is beautiful here. I can't really blame it, but it does make being outside a little less lovely.
Unfortunately, due to all those factors it was a short month of sharing on the blog.
- I did finally post the full DIY about our Carpet Stick Tile Squares
- I shared a little about my {best laid} plans for the month with a small June Chat
- I put up blinds in the family room and I love them even more now
- I shared my chicken crusted pizza recipe
- And I showed you how to make a metal mirror frame look like wood
As for all those great plans I had around here...well. That nasty cold sidetracked me, for sure, but it did leave me with a lot of time for dreaming.
I was able to look around and make a mental note of all the decorating projects I'd like to tackle in the second half of this year.
I worked on my bench a little, but stopped short when it came time to add the skirt and the fringe.
Do you remember this chair?
Well, it's seen its day.
The fabric skirt I made is still holding up well, but the chair itself is floppy and soft. The springs are popping up and it's no longer comfortable.
I did find this very similar chair to replace it, but instead, I've decided to have it reupholstered using that fabric above.
It sort of changed my bench plans a bit, so I think I have to wait to complete that DIY until the chair is finished and in the room.
In the meantime, that delicious fabric has prompted a little bit of redecorating in the kitchen...starting with these brand new plates in cranberry to put inside my glass cabinets.
They're so bright and bold, and dripping with cottage style charm. I thought they'd provide a great pop.
I've had the white Pottery Barn plates up there for a decade now.
Time to bring some color back.
I literally clicked purchase yesterday, so I haven't received them yet. I hope I like them and they're good quality. I'll keep you posted and if anyone out there has them, I'd love to know how you like them.
Lastly, I've been toying with the idea of embellishing my new checked sofa. I haven't had the energy to dig into it yet, but hopefully this week I can get that done.
Again, it's another project on the list for July.
Fingers crossed.
In the meantime, I wish you all a lovely holiday however you will be celebrating!
Happy Summer!
I’ve loved that chair you recovered since the very first time I saw it. And it’s been more than a minute, lol! I’m sure the new one will be nice but the old one sure was special.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much and I agree, the old one was a whim of a DIY, but it was my favorite project and I still adore it. If the spring wasn't poking me every time I sat down, I wouldn't touch it. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little nervous about the redo...I really hope it turns out well. Fingers crossed!!
DeleteThat chair has been one of my all time favorites in blog land! Beautiful work. Anxious to see your new chair.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I adore that chair and haven't wanted to touch it. I've been so nervous and don't want to say goodbye to those lovely fabrics. It's just taken a beating and it's time for a refresh. I really hope I love it, too.
DeleteThe smoke is affecting our time outside too.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you were sick. Bob had a nasty virus a couple weeks ago and was also so sick. Took him a bit to get his strength back. I'm glad you're doing better, just get your rest and don't overdo.
I remember that chair. You did an amazing job and I know you will on the next one too.
Did you order the new dishes in red?
Happy Summer, Happy 4th!
Thanks so much, Mari...trying to take it day by day, but this one has been brutal. No energy at all which is frustrating when you're the go go go type! I ordered the dishes in cranberry. I fell in love with the deep red. I really hope they're good!! Happy 4th!!
DeleteI love the fabric you chose for the chair, Kim. It's going to be beautiful! I hope you're feeling better soon and you get your energy back...you've got projects to do!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Ann!! I’m nervous about the chair, since I just adore it now, but it’s literally falling apart.
DeleteI think the fabric you picked is beautiful I cannot wait to see the chair come together. Hope you start to feel better. Happy 4th. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteThank Kris! I love the fabric, I hope I love the new chair as much bad the old…fingers crossed!! Happy 4th!!
DeleteCount me as another one that loves that chair :-) I also love that embroidered fabric, ooh lala! I have a lot of the Temptations bakeware and love it! I have both cranberry and blue in the floral lace pattern and enjoy using them together for baking/serving for the patriotic holidays. I hope you like the dishes! So sorry about the smoke, I hope that Canada gets some rain to help with the fires :-( Sending good vibes that you're back to 100% real soon!
ReplyDeleteI know...the chair. Everyone loves that chair, including me. If I could keep it as is, I would, but it's time for an upgrade, since my tail is aching every time I sit in it! Haha!! I do love the embroidered fabric, I just have to design it so we can sit it in and not snag it. Thanks for the well wishes and for sharing about the Temptations. I don't know anyone who has it, but it looks so pretty and versatile, now I can't wait to get it!! I hope you're enjoying the 4th!!
DeleteWhat about having the springs re-sprung and save from going to landfill
ReplyDeleteHi Marilyn! Yes, I’m going to have the chair reupholstered. I love the shape and style. It’s much more expensive than buying new but I’ll get what I want…and save it from the landfill, as you said. 😊
DeleteSo sorry to hear you were ill. it's takes time to get your energy back. the fabric is lovely and the chair will looks so beautiful. Glad you are adding some color to your plates. Happy 4th.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. This one was a rough one, but it's forced me to rest and peek around the house at all the things I need to get done and all the places I can add more red! Haha!! I hope you have a lovely 4th!!
DeleteI'm so sorry you have been sick. Our time outside has been brief too. The humidity has been horrible. The fabric is beautiful, and I can't wait to see it finished.
ReplyDeleteI have Temptations pieces and they are fantastic, and I have the same pattern in cranberry. It's a very pretty pattern. These dishes and other baking items can go from fridge to oven. I think you will be pleased. Let me know what you think. Feel better.
Thanks Cindy…three years with barely a sniffle and bam. It’s been a rough one. However, I have been able to shop, hence the new dishes! I’m so glad you like your Temptations pieces. They are very pretty and yes, I couldn’t believe how versatile. I can’t wait to get them!
DeleteWow! I am so sorry you have been sick. Summer colds/viruses are the worst. One of my friends has been sick for almost 3 weeks with some crazy cold/virus that just won't give up...and she is already one that 'rests' a lot so not sure if maybe she needs to be up and about more...anyway.
ReplyDeleteLove love love your new dishes. They are fun and that fabric is just lovely. I had a red and white kitchen once years ago and absolutely loved it. It always made me smile. Hubby does not like red so there isn't much red in our house anymore...but I have always found it to be a happy color.
Have a wonderful 4th of July and, by the way, I am so very, very proud of your girls and their musical achievement! xo Diana
Thanks Diana, this one has been brutal. I’m still struggling to find my energy and it’s closing in on two weeks. Dreaming of all that red is making me smile though. I already have so much of it, but a new, fresh batch will be a welcome pop since over the years I have toned some of it down. Plus, the color fades. Thanks for the kind words about the girls, too. I remember all those years ago sharing the Disney contest with you and you were so gracious and supportive. I can’t believe that was a decade ago…and yet we look exactly the same!! ❤️ I hope you’re enjoying the 4th.
DeleteHappy 4th of July! The To Do lists for the house never seems to end right? Good thing we are creative! Love the plates - I think they will fill those cabinets quite nicely~!
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th, Gina! Yes, that to do list...but like you said, a little creativity goes a long way.
DeleteI'm so sorry you've been sick, Kim, and that the smoke from the fires has interfered with your favorite time of year. I love the fabric you've shared. It's so beautiful. As a red color lover as well, I whole heartedly love your plans for the dishes in your cupboard!
ReplyDeleteThanks Deanna, between the cold and the smoke, no, summer hasn't been fabulous so far. Here's hoping it gets better quickly and the fabric and the plates are as pretty in person as they are in my head!! Haha!! Happy 4th!
DeleteHi, I do hope you are feeling better my dear friend. The smoke gave me a reaction as well. I ended up with dry eye, it was awful, it is finally getting better. My doctor shared several people are having reactions to the smoke.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your projects, you know you inspire me. Love, Carla
Oh no, I’m so sorry that you had a reaction to the smoke. I can’t believe so much of it’s made its way to all of us. Hopefully, the rest of the summer is smoke free. xo
DeleteKim, I do hope you are feeling better now. I hope that you take the summer off from all of your decorating DIY's to enjoy the beach and pool! Your house already looks beautiful with everything you and your husband have done to it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie. Every day a little better, but this silly summer cold is still hanging on. Grrr. Hopefully, I can ditch it soon and enjoy the beach and pool!
DeleteKim,
ReplyDeletePlaying catch up on your posts!! Where does the time go ??? And people asked me what I was going to do if I retired early at 62!!! I guess they did not know me well, huh?
Love that chair, the new fabric and can not wait to see the "new" chair!! Thanks so much for all your visits and sweet comments!!
Hugs,
Deb
Thanks Deb and I hear you! We are busy, busy, busy, so I really appreciate you taking the time to stop by for a visit. Your comments always make me smile and visiting your blog is always a pleasure as well!
