You don't have to have a large front porch to decorate for fall.
Here are a few quick and easy ways to bring a little autumn spice to your front stoop or fall front door.
Summer, summer, summer, I wait all year for that glorious warm weather and revel in every delicious minute of it.
However, as the days begin to get shorter and a chill sets in the air, it's hard to deny that fall is on its way.
In the past, I've chosen to fight that fact until the last possible moment, holding on to every whisper of summer until I was forced to let go.
However in recent years, while I've still been reluctant to break out the pumpkins before September 21st or so, I have been more open to the gathering of fall decor ideas while still wading in the pool.
I think that's called maturity. Apparently, I'm growing.
And in that spirit, today, I'm sharing some fabulous fall porch decor. Even if it's not quite fall. Yet.
Are you ready?
Now, full disclosure here, I don't have a front porch to share. I have a stoop. A tiny little slab of bluestone and a few steps on the front of my cottage.
Yes, I do have a covered porch on the side of the house, but truth be told, there's not a lot of seasonal decorating that goes on there.
Although it did recently get a late summer makeover.
I really should pop some pumpkins out there, maybe a pumpkin planter for a natural wow.
But honestly, no one would see it, but us.
So I prefer to focus on that stoop, to share some ideas, things I've done in the past, in the hopes that maybe it will inspire you to decorate yours, too.
Of course, the easiest way to add a little fall flair is to hang up a wreath.
Store bought or handmade- like this one I made with tiny white pumpkin picks.
Not into traditional wreaths? Honestly any kind of door decor will do.
Want to take it up a notch?
Don't ignore the stoop.
If you really want to add some drama, bring on the accessories.
I utilized just about every square inch of that slab with my fall flag decor.
It's a great upcycle if you're into that kind of crafting, too.
Coupled with an old ceramic pumpkin and a trash to treasure swan planter, it creates the perfect autumn vignette.
It also looks great on a wall or door. Lots of choices.
Perfect for big spaces or small.
I'm just going to wait to hang mine up until it's actually fall.
How about you??

Hi Kim. Happy Labor Day Weekend. I am like you and savor every minute of summer that we get but I know fall is on our heels. I have been thinking about fall decor too. Just not quite ready to put it out yet. Love the banner and the cute wreath on the black door. That is awesome and really pops on the door. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kris
Happy Labor Day weekend!! How did we get here so fast?? I haven’t even peeked in the direction of my fall buckets yet, but I am going to place my mum order today with the school fundraiser. The kids may be out, but they still have the best flowers and I like supporting the school. Best yet, I don’t have to pick them up until October! 😉
DeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI have been finishing projects for fall. I posted my first the other day. I love upcycling too as you know.
Honestly I can't get enough of this time of year. Besides flowers especially hydrangeas I'm not a summer person.
I don't love snow but bring on cooler and colder months and I'm happy. I know gasp.
Have a great weekend!
Cindy
Cindy, I think fall is lovely. My aversion to it is that it’s the harbinger of winter…and I don’t like winter. I think the perfect year would be summer, fall, winter until Valentine’s Day and then summer again! Ha! I guess I’m an island girl through and through. I do love fall crafting though, almost more than Christmas crafting! Now you can gasp. 😉
DeleteHappy Labor day weekend Kim. I love summer, however this particular summer has been so hot and then with covid and the fire, it has not been pleasurable to go out. it is finally easing up. The stoop looks great. Very creative use of a hanger for the garden flag.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. And yes, I totally get it, it's been a rough summer all around and I know for you particularly difficult. Hopefully fall brings some peace. ❤️
DeleteHi Kim, My garden is keeping me busy. Harvest Time!! I have two white pumpkins still growing in the garden. I plan to use them in my decor this year.
ReplyDeleteIt is always fun to see what you create. You are creative and thrifty .. my style. :-)
Thanks Carla! I love those white pumpkins…and to have them growing in the garden? Can’t get anymore authentic decorating than that! You my friend are amazing!
DeleteDoesn't make any difference the size, it's the idea of enjoyment for us and others, who knows what joy you may bring to others with just this stoop, it brought a smile to my face. Thanks and have a wonderful Labor Day weekend.
ReplyDeleteMarlene, you truly are the sweetest leaving such kind messages in my inbox. You always make my day and bring me great enjoyment. Thank you!! 😊☺️
DeleteLike you, I am not ready for fall just yet...I am enjoying every minute of summer while I can. But our weather is telling me differently, with the cooler temps and rain moving in this week. You decorated your front entryway so beautifully for fall. It's very welcoming. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Melanie! Our weather is taking a turn here, too. It's still hot, but the sun is definitely in a different spot in the sky and it's getting darker earlier and earlier...boo. Enjoy the weekend!
DeleteI never decorate for fall before October but not this year. I am so ready for cooler weather. It will be here on Wednesday!..if the weatherman is correct.
ReplyDeleteSo this week I'm putting my 2 yr old grandson to work. We're going to take down summer & clean, then pull out my fall tub of decorations & start decorating. We may even visit a pumpkin patch or garden center to add to the fun.
Oh, what a great age to be immersed in fall fun…2! It’s all so magical and new. Enjoy your fall decorating and adventures together. I wish I could go along!!!
DeleteI love your ideas. We had a stoop, are in the process of getting a porch. I'm afraid no decorating this year, but I'm looking forward to next year!
ReplyDeleteOh! Lucky you, that sounds so exciting. I can’t wait to see the finished product!
DeleteHappy Labor Day, Kim. Sometimes I wish I only had a stoop then there wouldn't be so much work involved. Your' s looks so pretty and you couldn't have made it any bettter if it was bigger. The rock on your house looks so pretty. I don't think I have even seen a full view of the outside. Stay well, my friend..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteThanks Judy! We love that stone. The house was built in the 20’s and that stone seems to be pretty popular in our neighborhood. It must have been the builder’s favorite! The same stone was used on our fireplace. I have to say, it’s what first drew us to the house. And your porch is so lovely. It’s exactly what I think about when I dream of having one myself. Enjoy the weekend! xo
DeleteNow I'm not the only one with a fall decorated porch:) I have never decorated for fall this early but I am just soooo over summer and wanted to "rush the season." Your "porch" is sweet!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Cheri!!
DeleteHi Kim, oh how I love the summer. We all enjoyed sitting in the yard and having bbq's. I am not ready for summer to be over. I will gradually add fall decor inside and outside as the weather gets cooler out. I do love your pretty fall wreath and the fall hanger. Thanks for sharing these ideas. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not really ready to let go of summer yet, either, Julie. I have a feeling it's going to be a long, long winter...
DeleteAaaaaiii, I hear you Kim. I get sooooo sad when Autumn comes knocking on our door and I'm afraid I just don't want to mature EVER!!! ;-) Your little stoop is perfect too. Sometimes less, is more
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle!! Less is more and sometimes maturity is overrated!! I agree...
DeleteI do like Autumn/The Fall it is one of my favourite seasons.
ReplyDeleteI did so enjoy this post, thank you.
All the best Jan
It's a very beautiful and cozy time of year, Jan, there's no doubt. I just love those hot pool and beach days so much. I find it hard to say goodbye.
