For some totally unknown reason, pigs have become my decorating animal of choice. I'm not exactly sure when or why this happened, but now, if I'm out and about and I see a pig, I have to have it.
I think the root of it can be traced back about 15 years, or so, to this adorable napping swine. I saw him in a local gift shop, while my littles were at dance class, and I just couldn't leave the store without him.
Turns out, he was a great investment. The kids found him as charming as I did and whenever the noise level in the house started to get out of control, I would simple point and say, Shhh...you're going to wake the pig!
Giggles ensued, and the ruckus or mayhem would stop immediately. Worth every penny.
The next pig to take up residence in my kitchen was this cute shelf sitter. She was a Marshall's find and decorates my stove hood with her dainty demeanor and dangling legs.
And who knew that half a pig could be even more darling than a whole? Plus he was red. I mean, come on. Nobody has that much willpower!
Then a few months ago, I added a stenciled pig to an old cutting board. It's sandwiched between two roosters, but clearly the star of the show. That's certainly plenty of pigs.
But nope.
If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you may have seen my latest addition. I was at the grocery store, shopping with my daughter, and she said, Oh cute pig, you need this.
She was right, very sweet, but for $8.99, I said, no way. And we moved on. Until the following week, when were in the same store, and said pig was still there, starting at us.
Mom, he's so cute...how do you not see this? Of course, I saw it, but I didn't really need another pig and certainly not a $9.00 pot hanger with my brown thumb.
However, after three weeks in the same store, with the same kid, pointing out the same pig, I caved. I had just transplanted my rose-less mini rose bushes and I thought, ok, well, maybe the pig will distract my eye from all that greenery.
And it did. Super sweet and apparently a very good luck charm, because my roses started blooming right away. Fabulous.
So fabulous, in fact, that when I went back to the store this week, I grabbed another pig to share with you...in a giveaway.
This time, my husband was with me, so I plopped the pig in the cart and then took off down the pasta aisle while he gathered the fruits and veggies. As I rounded the corner to find him, I heard a woman laughing, and saw a couple chatting with him.
Apparently, my husband, ever the joker, decided to perch the pig on the back of the child seat, so it faced out as he pushed the cart around the store. The couple saw it and the man made a comment.
So, you take your little friend with you everywhere? Two jokers. Great...
Ok, well, enough of the story, let's get to the fun part. The giveaway!! If you live in the US and you'd like a chance to win this tiny pig and start a collection of your own, just leave me a comment saying so or drop me and email and you will be entered.
It's that simple.
I'll pick a winner on Friday, May 3rd and announce it here.
Of course, that means I'll have one less pig.
But that's alright...gives me good reason to find a new friend. 😉🐷
I hope you'll enter.
I have a picture of a pig jumping in a small lake with a sign above it that says when pigs fly that I love. I would love your litlle pig he is so cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute sign, Cheryl! I think I might need to make one. 😉
DeleteI love all farm animals esp the pig. He is so cute to watch over my flowers.
ReplyDeleteHe's a great watcher, Suzie!
DeleteThat is a darling pig, Kim! I can use a pig! And it’s a fun story! But dontcha think that rose lived & bloomed bc you finally read the directions on how to transplant it, LOL???
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, Florence, you're probably right. I'm surprised that my thumb is not as brown as I thought it was. Look what a little bit of "following the directions" can do!
DeleteSuch a cute little piggy. Reading your post & seeing how your husband had the piggy on the cart the way he did...all I could think of was how your little piggy went to the market while your other little piggy stayed home. Please put me in to win this cute little piggy!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, we are all laughing at your comment!! 🤣 We love it!! What a clever comment and a fun observation. Thanks so much for the smile and you are entered!
DeleteHello 👋
ReplyDeleteI 💘this giveaway! These pigs are not not only cute but the make me smile!
I would love to win! The bonus is I love your ideas!
Thanks so much!! What a lovely comment and you're in!
DeleteI also collect pigs, Kim and I'm sure I need another one. After all, there's no such thing as too many!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Ann. Never too many pigs...good luck!
DeleteI am a retired teacher who collected and decorated my classroom with pigs. My students loved it, and I received a lot as gifts from my students. Their parents would tell me that no matter where they were, if they saw a pig, they begged to buy it for me. I loved it! Thank you for the opportunity to win!
ReplyDeleteNow that's a lasting impact, Kari! I bet that for after those kids left your room, each time they saw a pig they were reminded of sweet times in your care.
DeleteYou've convinced me that I need a pig pot hanger in my life! He is a cutie and if he can talk your roses into blooming, he is surely magical and can help mine grow too! duchick at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteA miracle worker for sure, Kathy! Good luck!
DeleteThis little piggy would look darling on one of my outside plant pots - that is, if I ever get to plant anything outside! This weather is ridiculous - it's snowing here right now! Thank you for including me in the giveaway. So sweet of you to do this.
ReplyDeleteOh Melanie, I saw your Instagram and was looking for the unlike button there. I really do hope that your weather has taken a turn for the better...perhaps a pig will help! Good luck!
DeleteOh I love pigs and yours are just too cute. I do have a PIG HORROR story in my past though. After school ent home with a friend who lived on a farm (when I was a little girl). I loved feeding the chickens and petting the cow but when I walked into the pig pen, this big old hog began chasing me. Scared the willies out of me! I have one sweet little pig...one Mother's Day when my son was very young his daddy took him to buy me anything he wanted to buy me for Mother's Day. My son picked out a towel and this tiny little pig figurine. Wonder if he thought I was "dirty and fat"????? Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to win. If I happen to get lucky, I promise to take very good care of him.
ReplyDeleteCheri, that sounds scary!! I think the idea of pigs and farm life about as much as I can handle right now. So I pay up a little, but I don't have to feed anyone or worry about being chased! Perfect.
DeleteI love all your pigs, and also your hubbys sense of humor! Thanks for doing this sweet giveaway. :)
ReplyDeleteHe’s a funny guy, Mari. And he indulges me in all of my crazy decorating and DIY schemes…I think I’m pretty lucky.
DeleteSuch a cute little piggie!
ReplyDeleteIn the late 80s we moved from the city to the country. One day when I went to the garage to go to work there was a black & white pig in front of my car! I didn't quite know what to do, but as a lover of most animals, I tried to coax him out. "Here piggie piggie piggie..." No, it did not work, but after a few attempts to approach him, he finally scooted around the car and out of the garage and took off. This piggie reminds me of my visitor! Lol!
And I have an african violet thst grows well buut doesn't bloom. Maybe this would help??
Ha! I guess he was welcoming you to the neighborhood, Melanie! I have to say, I'm not sure what I would do in that situation either. I remember driving back to college in the country many times, many, many years ago and the entire road would be blocked and cows or pigs would make their way from one pasture to another. And they weren't in any kind of hurry to cross the road...it was funny!!
DeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI can totally see your hubby putting the pig in that cart like that!!!! How fun!!! I think you need to keep this second pig for yourself. He is so cute and needs to be with his little friend lol! If you do not change your mind and keep him then I hope you will find him a good home. He is pretty cute!!!!
Happy Weekend.
Hugs,
Kris
Ha, Kris, he's a nut. I couldn't imagine what these people were laughing about...it took me a bit to figure out if I knew them or not. Well, we didn't but we did make some new friends. Trust me, they'll never forget us and our crazy little piggy in the cart. Happy Monday!!
DeleteOh! How cute! My friend married a man that was an executive for an oil company. AFTER they got married he told her his dream was to own a pig farm. LOL He ended up owing a HUGE operation that grew pigs for Hormel. LOL She was NOT happy. So, to make things fun for her I would collect pigs and send her a box of 12 pig items for Christmas every year-at the place where she worked. She would mutter under her breath but co-workers made her open the box in front of them. I was sad to see the end of an era when he sold that pig operation and started raising beef cattle. Not nearly as much fun to collect cows.
ReplyDeleteI won't sign up for the giveaway because I am moving and purging...but good luck to all those that enter. xo Diana
Oh Diana, can you imagine? I don't think farm life would be for me. I like the romanticized version. My brother in law owns a poultry distributor and I worked there for a few summers while I was in college. It's not a pretty business...I think I'd enjoy getting 12 "anythings" from you every Christmas though. That part sounds like fun!! xo
DeleteOh my goodness Kim, this is just too too adorable. I think your home is turning into a farm without the dirt and smell. ;)
ReplyDeleteOnly the good farm stuff here, Mary!! 😉
DeleteIt is such a cute little pig …
ReplyDeleteAs I'm in the UK please do not include me in the drawer, but good luck to all those who enter.
Enjoy these last few days of April.
All the best Jan
Thanks Jan. One of these days I'll figure out how to send stuff overseas!
DeleteYour daughter is one clever lady Kim. The little hanging pig is adorable
ReplyDeletePersistence pays off!! She's got that part down for sure...
DeleteAwww, he is so cute!! Surprisingly, I've been seeing a lot of pig decor in the stores lately and have been tempted to pick up one...or two! :-) Love and hugs sweet friend!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what triggered my obsession, but they are cute. Seeing a lot of them in the stores lately could be a problem though. I should steer clear!!
DeleteHello Kim,
ReplyDeleteSo much fun. Two jokers in a store, goodness! LOL Does your husband tease the check out people at all or pull a joke on them? My dad does all the time. ;-)
My mom collects pigs. She loves them. I found her the cutest pig coin purse for Mother's Day!
If I win I will give this sweet pig to her.
Love, Carla
He's not a teaser, but he definitely chats it up and makes jokes with them. My kids call them "dad jokes"...and then they say we're a perfect pair, because I laugh at them. Oh well...I think they're funny! Your dad sounds like fun and that coin purse sounds darling.
DeleteWhat a sweet pig. I'd love to "win" one, but would hate to break up the set.
ReplyDeleteCheryl
It is fun to have the pair, but they're so cute, I have to share! Good luck!

DeleteI always look forward to reading your posts. I have made several of your crafts, namely the hydrangea wreath, a rooster stenciled pillow, and numerous banners. Thanks so much for sharing your lovely, and easy to make, projects. Love the pig! Please enter me in the contest.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, lovely comment. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave it. I never really know if people actually make my crafts unless they let me know in some way and that is rare. It's not always easy to comment, I know, but you just made my day...week...month! ☺️ And good luck...you are entered!!
DeleteThis is the cutest pot pig! I love the funny story of your husband carting the pig around in the grocery store! Since I've been so very blessed by one of your giveaways in the past, I won't throw my name in the hat :) Have a blessed weekend!
