It's a holiday weekend and I couldn't be more excited! Yes, I know there are a lot of reasons to celebrate, but truth be told, what has me super excited is the fact that the kids are off from school and Lent is ending and I will be able to eat cake again!!
During February and March there were a bunch of parties around here and I had to pass on all the treats. I even ate cornbread on my own birthday instead of cake. It's actually a pretty funny story...me, blushing, as my family serenaded me with Happy Birthday and then blowing out {A LOT OF} candles stuck into cornbread muffins. Mmm. Yummy.
Ridiculous.
So while everyone else is planning their Easter and Passover appetizers and main courses, I am planning dessert!!
Can you tell I'm excited?
Of course, it won't all be about the cake, we do have a few other plans that don't revolve around food for the holiday weekend.
I saw this crafty post, from my friend Susan at Homeroad, and we're going to color eggs using her neat process.
I'm not generally a fan of coloring eggs. Big mess. Mixing and vinegar. I tried decorating eggs with napkins and decoupage once. Yeah...big mistake. Susan's method looks more my speed.
I'm sure I will tell the tale of the Easter Bunny and Pokemon again at the table. You know, in between cake courses. It was a major mom fail moment, but the kid still has the toys, many, many years later. So I'm thinking it was totally worth the effort. And the embarrassment.
And we will be hitting the beach, which isn't really a big deal since we live here, but after this snow soaked winter, a day with my toes in the sand is just what the doctor ordered! We've been catching the sunset lately, like this one from my Instagram, but I've always wanted to go to one of those sunrise beachfront Easter masses.
Sleep seems to get in the way. I'm thinking this could be the year.
I wish you all a wonderful holiday weekend, no matter what holiday you are celebrating and how you are celebrating it.
If you care to share, I'd love to hear what you'll be up to.
Like I said, the kids are off from school.
I'm only planned until Monday.
I could use a little inspiration!
Hippity, Hoppity!!
Oh, before you go, I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for the many lovely messages, comments and emails about my birthday, my blog anniversary and my giveaway. So sweet!
I'd also like to send a giant congratulations to Cathy Sweeney! You are my anniversary winner.
Thanks to everyone who entered and keep your eyes open for another giveaway coming soon. I love giving stuff away!
More holiday tales?
Kim- Those eggs turned out cute but WHAT a mess with half-boiled eggs. LOL Next year try wrapping them in vegetable skins...they are amazing but I only did them once years ago.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have a busy time going on--don't we all? LOL Love the beach shot and though I am seldom on IG I did see the post there, too.
Happy Easter to you and your sweet family- xo Diana
Eggs and I just don’t get along…unless they’re scrambled, but the kids still love to color them so I do it. Typical mom, I suppose. I hope you have wonderful Easter, too! Enjoy all those grands! xoxo
DeleteWe’ll have the family here, at least some of them and family friends are coming too! The grand girls will be here, and we’ll do an egg hunt.
ReplyDeleteOh, I miss the egg hunts! Enjoy!
DeleteI've decided you need your own reality show. seriously! or rather unseriously.
ReplyDelete"I could've just opened it up and you could've picked them out."
I could have hit him myself! and still can't figure out how a gorgeous Sicilian girl has a tooth that just 'falls out!' must have been a perfect faux tooth? LOL! loved the comeback when in your mind you were telling Mr 20 how you really 'wanted to.' you know. in your mind!
and the underwear! I'm telling you. YOU NEED YOUR OWN SHOW! you can rake in the dough. and then retire on any sunny beach you like. of course we would miss the posts. but then we'd see it in person! LOL much love to you Sicily Girl! until blonde Virna Lisi (Google's telling me I've spelled that wrong)... I didn't know there were blonde Italians! but the spirit is the same! beautiful! XO
oh. btw. I happen to LOVE Johnny Cake! (what we call sweet cornbread in the South/Southwest!)
Tammy, those two days were completely embarrassing and I told no one about them for years. I used to dodge the tree guy whenever I saw him in the pizza place (which was like every other day) and I combed Youtube looking for Kmart underwear footage. Then one day at a cocktail party, my husband referenced one of them and the laughter ensued. I realized that it was much better to laugh with others than to hide by yourself. I am glad they made you smile! 😀
DeleteWell here is to enjoying your cake Kim. We have our Easter next week so this coming week we will be revving up the preparations. Making biscuits and sweet breads and of course dyeing those eggs. It somehow feels different here but I hope to make new traditions how that we are here. Happy Easter my friend and enjoy the time with the family.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter, Mary! Ah yes, my mother was Albanian Orthodox and it is the same day as the Greek holiday. We always had two Easter dinners, but the bunny and egg hunt only happened once. We never thought that was fair!! Enjoy!
DeleteHappy Cake Eating . . .
ReplyDeleteIt will taste soooooo good after a 40 day fast!
Liked your remembering Easter AND Passover . . .
They are closely aligned in the calendar this year . . .

xx oo
Carla
Thanks Carla! I actually baked this year, can you believe it? I winged it with a bunny blueberry pie. Fun! xo
DeleteSeriously cute..and I'm now convinced I stood behind you when "craftyness" was handed out..Or you were selfish and just took it all! LOL
ReplyDeleteYou are too nice!! And I've seen your posts, you've got plenty of craftiness up your sleeve!
DeleteThank you, Teri. Same to you...all year long!! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteoh your eggs look so pretty ! :) I have always just traditionally dyed them but found a post on FB that I sent to the DiL where someone tossed them in containers with colored rice
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb! We end up doing the traditional dye no matter how hard I fight it. They have fun, I guess that's the point right?
DeleteLOL me again! :) I commented prior to going to your links and one was the white rice one ! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny! It's a great method. We actually went away so we didn't end up doing the rice eggs, but next year for sure!
DeleteLove those pretty Easter eggs. Hope you had a great holiday with your family.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristi!!
DeleteI'm so late to the party Kim! I'm so sorry! Happy 50th birthday! What fun eating cornbread muffins, I love it! And your Easter eggs turned out so pretty... it is a lot of work to decorate the eggs! Going to the beach sounds like a wonderful plan, and that sunset picture you took is gorgeous! What a delightful thing to be able to do after a long winter! It is raining here today, and I'm playing catchup with blogging... way overdue! Hugs to you sweet friend :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Marilyn!! It was a fun birthday and I finally got my cake on Easter. 😊
