It's A Fun Fall Shake Up

Hello there friends. Today, I have a little bit of an announcement to make. I am going to try something new on The Exquisitely Unremarkable Facebook Page.

Yup. As the new season gets underway, not only am I fluffing and (literally) feathering my nest, I am shaking the dust off of my old ways and shaking things up a bit over there.

One of the greatest things about sharing my DIY and crafty how-to's each week is the responses I get from readers.

When I write and share personal stories and my view on certain topics, people open up in the comments and add to the narrative with their own experiences.

I am always touched by the fact that so many are so willing to join the conversation.

As a writer and creator, nothing could be better.

However.

A lot of you do not have a Blogger or Google account and therefore you do not/ cannot comment, even when there are giveaways, which people have told me they love. You can reply directly to my email posts, but I have been told by some that it's not something they feel comfortable doing...and I know that there are times when you would like the input of the community not just this humble author.

Makes sense.

As much as I hate the admit it, (because I despise social media and have tried to leave it before) it is much easier to have these kinds of interactions on Facebook.

So, what's a girl to do?

Get a new perspective and...umm...well...this.

This is what I posted there this week.

So what does it mean? Well, roughly that I am going to try to be more present on Facebook and use it as an extension of my site.

Some things won't change on Facebook.

I will still share my posts there and when I see something either extremely thought provoking, gorgeous, helpful or funny, I will share that as I have been doing all along.

But. I am going to try a few new things, too.

I have a neat week long event planned in October. Look out for details!

I am going to host Fan Fridays where I will encourage you to share your newest craft or decorating project. I know that a lot of you don't have blogs, but you are amazingly creative. I am hoping you will inspire us with your own talents.

There will be Decorating Dilemma days, so you can let us know when you are looking for a solution. They will go hand in hand with Crafty Question days if you have process or resource inquiries.

Back in March, my husband to referred to ExquisitelyUnremarkable.com as a KIMmunity, because so many readers shared in the comments, speaking to both me and each other. I want to further encourage that kind of conversation and camaraderie.

That's my goal anyway.

I will also be holding tiny pop up giveaways, offering a little something to brighten your day every now and then.

**CLOSED NOW** For example, I just gave away a $5 Starbucks gift card. (I did say tiny after all!) All you had to do was comment on this Facebook post and you'll be entered. Keep your eyes open for a new one soon!!

It's just my little thank you for hanging out with me.

So...if you like what you heard here today and want to follow the fun, you can find me at Exquisitely Unremarkable/Facebook.

Handing out smiles!

And my way of making social media easier to bear.

*JUST TO CLARIFY: I will still be blogging here exactly the same as always, just adding the new Facebook stuff for the many who enjoy that platform!

  1. Well, that counts me out, as I'm not a part of the FB community.

Enjoy your new venue with FB and I hope it really does well for you. I do hope you'll still be blogging.

    1. I will still be blogging here, same as always Lorraine. Writing is my passion. I am just changing up the way I approach Facebook to make it a more fun place to be for those that enjoy Facebook. And trust me, if it weren't for the blog, I would not be a part of the FB community either! ;)

  4. Giveaways are fun. Good idea to remind folks that anything that is physically mailed is limited to entries from the US... Keep up the innovations! If I had more ambition (a thing lacking right this minute) I'd copy your plan. Except then I'd feel like I was copying your plan! lol
I like the KIMummity! Great punster, is your husband.
Thanks for being a bright spot in my day!

  6. Well, Kim, I am such a loser!! Someone hacked me on FB and I know a lot of people were bothered by the stuff they were getting because of that, and since my daughter talked me into using FB in the first place, I was never happy doing it. So, I stopped it, I thought. I followed all the rules and pushed all the right buttons, I thought, but I'm still getting stuff so guess it didn't work. I would like to do Instagram because I love the photography part of my blog, and I do have a smart phone, BUT never use it. Talking on the phone is the biggest waste of time in my book. So, therefore, I will still keep following and enjoying you through your blog. If you stop, I will be in trouble!!.Have a wonderful weekend..Judy

    1. Judy, you are super sweet, thank you! I am not going to stop blogging. I am like you, I do not enjoy Facebook and don’t really have the time for it, but there are apparently A LOT of people who enjoy it and keep asking me if I have a page there. I always have, but I never used it that much. So now I am jumping in with both feet…for a bit. It’s my experiment. If it doesn’t work, I can say I tried. If it does, well then great. I’ll learn something new and probably make some new friends. I guess I’ll have to wait and see!

  7. I will miss you if you stop blogging though, because I don't do Facebook. Despite my daughters urging me to get one, I just do not want another thing to keep me tied to the computer.

    1. Still blogging, Kathy! Not leaving, just adding some Facebook stuff for people who do enjoy the platform. Writing is my passion and that is what keeps me excited. And I don't blame you, Facebook can be a major time suck...and 99% of what goes by is unnecessary! In my opinion anyway....thanks for the input!!

  9. Hi Kim,
I have a private FB page and do connect some of Junk Chic Cottage to my FB page. Just not as good about FB as I would like.
I do more on my blog but FB does seem to be the social media for most. Good luck as you post on FB.

    1. There are so many people of FB it is ridiculous, Kris. I prefer the blog and writing long pieces here. Although sometimes it is easier to communicate quickly in the comments section on FB. AND nonbloggers can really become part of the conversation. I am going to give it a try. Thanks for the luck, I think I’m going to need it!! :)

  13. Enjoy your new adventure and creating . . .
I am finding I am in more of a "wind down" than a "pick me up!"
Although building a new building in our back forty will take me out
of any winding down mode. I do have a creative project that has been stirring around in my brain.
And I am looking forward to "getting with it!

  14. I have posted more on Facebook in the past year than in all the years I have been on it. That was because I was in charge of the Facebook promotion of my high school reunion. But now that it's over, I don't think I'll be on Facebook much.

    1. I have to admit it’s a great way to reach a lot of people in a hurry, Carol, especially when planning a large group event. That said, my 30th is in a few weeks, but they had to mail me a paper invite, because personally, I am not on Facebook!! ;)

  15. Good luck! But I won't be at your FB, because I tried maintaining two FB accounts (real name, and a blogging identity), and it was too much FB work for me. haha. I'll just follow here.

    1. I’m not a big FB fan either, Lisa. I do not even use a personal profile. I have just recently had a few questions and it turns out it’s easier to answer them over there. So I am trying to embrace it all and smile…and give away smiles! Hoping it helps my general FB aversion… ;)

    1. It has been a good learning opportunity, that is true, but I think it’s going to be short-lived! We’ll see…and posting once a week means you are off living your full life with that sweet daughter of yours. Enjoy it all!! :)

  24. Well, all I can say is "whew" glad you are NOT quitting blogging, lol! I was kinda worried that may have been your announcement. I am not on facebook, my blog is the limit to my online social interaction, and I am content with that. I like simple, and from what I heart, FB becomes rather complicated, lol! If you ever post giveaways here, I would love to be a part of it, but I won't be able to do it on FB. I wish you the best in this endeavor though! Hugs to you today :) PS: Your writing is a gift, and your husband is quite the punster, lol!

    1. No no, no! Writing is my passion, but so many people have been asking for more FB interaction, I decided to give it a whirl. I can honestly say, I'm already ready to jump ship. I love the chatting with friends and the immediate nature of the interaction, but it's another place to be and I'd rather be offline...at least sometimes...and do my interacting with readers here. :)
