Lies and Other Acts of Love is Kristy Woodson Harvey's newest novel.

Have you read it?

Lies and other acts of love
Kristy generously provided me with a copy of her book.

Last summer my sweet friend Kristy Woodson Harvey sent me an email and asked if I would like to review her first novel.

I hadn't read a book in so long, that I jumped at the chance.

After all, I would have to make the time if it was for work, right?

Well, I fell in love with her storytelling.

I was hooked from day one.

I abandoned my normal cleaning routine and everyone ate a lot of pizza while I got lost in the pages for thirty six hours.

Naturally, when Kristy told me she was releasing a new book, titled Lies and Other Acts of Love, I immediately lined up for a copy to review and put the pizza parlor on speed dial.

Here's the summary.

After sixty years of marriage and five daughters, Lynn “Lovey” White knows that all of us, from time to time, need to use our little white lies.

Her granddaughter, Annabelle, on the other hand, is as truthful as they come. She always does the right thing—that is, until she dumps her hedge fund manager fiancĂ© and marries a musician she has known for three days. After all, her grandparents, who fell in love at first sight, have shared a lifetime of happiness, even through her grandfather’s declining health.

But when Annabelle’s world starts to collapse around her, she discovers that nothing about her picture-perfect family is as it seems. And Lovey has to decide whether one more lie will make or break the ones she loves . . .
Once again, Kristy wrote a story that hooked this typically non-fiction reader from page one.

The characters were relatable and I thought about them and their world whenever I was forced to peel myself away from the book long enough to shower or eat.

My favorite quote comes from Lovey. She shares it in her first chapter, as the story is told from the perspective of both granddaughter and grandmother.

The lies that matter most are the ones we tell ourselves.

That's when I knew that it was going to be a take out and unmade beds kind of book.

Fabulous!

Can't wait that long to get your hands on a copy?

Trust me, it's a great way to enjoy a summer day.

And a great excuse for pizza.

  5. This sounds like a good one, for sure! I was telling someone the other day I need to have a designated "reading day" where the only thing on my agenda is reading all.day.long. And preferably with rain beating against the windows and a warm cup of coffee by my side. And maybe a chocolate chip cookie. Or two. ;)

  17. I think it happens to all of us, at one point or another. We get so caught up in a book, we can't put it down and the life gets neglacted! That's ok books teach us so many life lessons, like the one you quoted above. Hoping you and yours are well.
