This year, as I decorate my sweet cottage for Christmas, I am going for a look that is simple and clean.
So, I decided to pare back a lot of what I normally put out. I am making very conscious decisions with my decor and the bedroom is a perfect example. It is dressed for Christmas and obviously so, with the addition of a very few strategic items.
The sign above the bed provides a festive focal point while the garland defines the windows.

The furry throw on the end of the bed adds a little rustic glam...
Perfect. Thanks Santa!

Your bedroom looks so warm and cozy, Kim. I actually put a tiny tree with twinkle lights on a little plant table in front of the window. It just makes me so happy to see it when I walk in the room at night.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Susan. Something about walking by the decorated bedroom makes me smile! Enjoy it!
DeleteSimple but beautiful, I love it! Adding a little Christmas here at our house today too. :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun, Stacey! And thank you! :)
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteHappy Start of Christmas. :-))
I use to decorate our bedroom, but I do not anymore.
I like what you added to yours. Perfect.
Carla
Thanks Carla. I used to add a pillow or two, lately I have been craving more in that room...but clean and simple! :)
DeletePERFECT . . .
ReplyDeleteMy kind of Lovely . . .
Thank you, Lynne! :)
DeleteI love this!!! What a beautiful room! The white linens are so pretty with the green walls - so fresh and cozy at the same time. Gorgeous, Kim!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debbie. I like the white all year long. There's something very fresh about it, you're right!
DeleteI agree, fuss belongs outside the bedroom! Love the crisp white all around Kim and the garland you placed on your window. Your green walls speak 'Christmas' easily too!
ReplyDeleteThey do, Vel…green and white stage already set for easy Christmas decor! ;) Thanks!
DeleteI decorate less and less around the house each year, but I don't think I have ever decorated the bedroom. Your ideas are cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pepper! I usually add a little something to brighten the room. This year is the most I have done, but I still like clean and simple. :)
DeleteYour room is very lovely. When the kids were home I used to decorate the bedrooms. I haven't for a long time. It might be fun to start again. Kim, you are going to inspire me to do better. Those bedrooms have been painted since the last time they had trees in them. I am going to have to give it some thought as to how to approach the new color schemes.
ReplyDeleteLorri, you are super sweet. I am sure your home is lovely, I've seen the banners! ;) I happen to really enjoy decorating, the way you enjoy cooking. That makes the house stuff much easier. Good luck with your color schemes. I always say, go with your gut...just like cooking!! ;)
DeleteLove this Kim--your crisp whites & festive garland on the window! Simply elegant! Blessings, Cecilia
ReplyDeleteThanks Cecilia! I love that white all year round, it's so easy to decorate with and it just makes me feel good!
DeleteWarm, cozy and so pretty. Great job Kim.
ReplyDeleteKris
Thanks! I just love the white in that room all year long, Kris!
DeleteJust beautiful Kim. You always decorate the best!! Yes I do decorate our bedroom for Christmas. I kept it simple this year too. Thanks for sharing. xo
ReplyDeleteYou are so kind Celestina Marie! I enjoy the decorating process, it's my outlet!
DeleteI am decorating my bedroom this year, and I don't know that I've ever done it before. But I'm having fun. I love the paint on that wall.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
It's all about fun, Brenda! I say go for it!
DeleteIt may be simple, Kim, but it is very sweet. Sometimes simplicity is the very best of all! Love it- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThank you and I agree, Diana! I am all about simple lately!! :)
DeleteBeautiful and so cozy. Love it.
ReplyDeleteJudy
Thank you, Judy! I like it a lot, too! :)
DeleteThis is my kind of Christmas decorating - minimal, clean, and beautiful! Love all the white bedding. Your touches of green are perfect. I go minimal in my bedroom, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Melanie. I really like to keep it clean especially in my room. :)
DeleteVery sweet! Love the wall color! I have not decorated my bedroom but I have it in my head that I NEED some Christmas bedding, until I priced it! Waiting till January when it will all be on sale.
ReplyDeleteThanks AnnMarie! I bought a really pretty red quilt at, of all places, Kmart a few years ago. It was part of the Country Living Collection and I pick it up for a song. I paired it with my year round white bedding and it really popped. I used the shams recently to cover my chair. Perhaps you’ll find a discount treasure between now and Christmas! :)
DeleteYour holiday touches are perfect, Kim! You make me want to clean my cluttered surfaces and add some cheer to my bedroom this season!
ReplyDeleteJane x
Thank you, Jane. The older I get the less stuff I seem to put out. I am starting to appreciate the simple life!
DeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, I love the few things you added to decorate for Christmas. It is all so simple and so pretty!
I love pops of red in Christmas decorating, and love the addition of the Santa!
Your wall color is beautiful, love it. And the bed, all the neutral tones are lovely.
I do decorate the bedroom, but only with a couple of things also...a tiny tree and a bit of greenery and that's it.
Have a wonderful week!
Hugs, Kimberley
Santa was a bargain in the decor aisle the other day. I couldn't resist that face! ;)
DeletePretty bedroom Kim. I add a few pillows and call it a day, as far as the bedroom goes. I don't like a lot going on where I sleep and we don't have a lot of room for extras anyway.
ReplyDeleteI agree, can’t be too busy in the bedroom Kristi! Pillows sound perfect! :)
DeleteYour bedroom is so pretty and I love the green walls. The santa is just too cute.
ReplyDeleteThanks Betty! Those green walls are my favorite!
DeleteI think it looks perfect. No need to go overboard all over the house. The bedroom is for rest and relaxation so we don't need to pull out all the stops. You have added just the right amount of Christmas cheer.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Mary! I agree, too much would not be restful.
DeleteI've never decorated my bedroom (as an adult...I always did as a child!) but I do think about doing it every year.
ReplyDeleteI keep cutting back a little each year as I've gotten older. I'm down to three tubs of Christmas decor so as new things come in I sort through & get rid of old things. Right now I decorate my front & back porches, living room, kitchen/dining area & main bathroom. Simple ideas like you've share though, would be fun & easy to add.
My kids go crazy in their rooms, Jenny and I let them. For me, I like less lately. I can really see my items and appreciate them without all the other clutter around. I just donated a whole bunch of stuff we no longer use. It felt great!
Deletethe garland on the windows is a nice touch! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deb! :)
DeleteLast year I decorated, removed half of what I had set out and took it back up to the attic.
ReplyDeleteI went completely overboard this year - every flat surface and then some!
We are leaving on a family vacation in just 16 days. We don't fly home until Christmas night. There is no shopping for gifts and no wrapping because we all agreed that time together was our gift to one another. I think I went overboard because I know that we won't have much in the way of Christmas decor on our vacation.
Christmas decor ebbs and flows around here too, Carol. From year to year and even within the season. I just go with it. Your vacation sounds lovely. The gift of family and friends is the best of all…enjoy! :)
DeleteI adore the garland on the window and those bed pillows are so pretty! I usually put up a Christmas tree in my bedroom (and the living room, and the kitchen, and the dining room) but I'm probably going to be too busy this year, and will just do the main one in the living room. I might just add a little snowflake pillow to my chair in the bedroom like I did last Christmas, but that'll probably be it. I so wish I'd grabbed more of those dollar spot snowflake pillows last year!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a tree in my room, Lisa. I am afraid that my allergies keep me from trying it...even a faux one. I am going to add a holiday pillow though. Have to find a good one! : )
Deleteyou took the word right our of my mouth! perfect.
ReplyDeleteit's what i was thinking. "oh kim. perfection." that's what i was actually thinking!
well.
since i live in a former hotel suite... all 525 feet of it! ... my bedroom is more in an alcove. always in view.
and my bookcase is in there. there is a beautiful red christmas box on top of the pine chest of drawers there too.
my homage in that room to our love of red! the cozy blanket on the bed is a deep teal green.
and over the bed is a large canvas painting of birds on tree branches in the snow. for the name of my 'wren house.'
other than the red tartan cloth on the glass topped tables... and the lamps lighted... i don't do a lot of decorating.
like you ... i love simple.
there are fairy lights on the fireplace ... and red poinsettias on the seat of the coat rack.
and my little tree on the large table when the marine gets back to get it out of his storage shed for me. i have collected little tiny birds over the years to always have on it. and i love them! and now they're especially perfect.
instead of a tree skirt i place poinsettias all around the base of it.
so...just lamplight... fairy lights ... red tartan... and crystal tea light holders... that's christmas at the wren house!
Your place sounds charming Tammy and I think that fairy lights just make the holidays. Sometimes, I keep mine up in the kitchen until March! ;) Shhh.
DeleteSometimes simple decorating goes a long way. Love your style. Loving the bed pillows.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, I seem to be all about simple lately! :)
DeleteI love all of these Christmas touches! They are simple and elegant, which makes a bold statement! As a rule, I normally do not decorate the bedroom for Christmas. BUT, I've been thinking about adding a few touches since our screened porch loops around to our bedroom. If I do, it will be small touches!
ReplyDeleteThanks Benita…every year a little something different! I like to shake it up. HoHoHo.
DeleteHi! Your simple bedroom is very nice and looks so relaxing! I have a Christmas quilt on my bed and pillow cases and a small nativity scene. I love the white in your bedroom. I am inclined to put a little less out this year too. Nancy
ReplyDeleteIt was very hard for me to cut back, Nancy. So many items are sentimental. I just decided to rotate some things...not this year, but maybe next! Maybe... ;)
DeleteSimple this year is my theme too, with everything going on I want a simple nature filled theme. Love the garland on the window...
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy…simple is becoming my mantra lately! :)
DeleteIt looks beautiful, Kim. Truly :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't decorated my bedroom in years, but I've regretted it every year I haven't. Time to do something about it ;)
love to you,
rue
Thank you Rue...I say go for it. I added only added a few simple items, but it feels so different to me! :) Love right back to you!
DeleteKim, just your sweet, simple touches SCREAM Christmas in such a beautiful way. Your green walls tell the whole story and the fur throw on your bed make it all feel so warm. What a gorgeous combination, and I will not be decorating my master bedroom this year, but the guest room is at the top of the list..Happy Tuesday..Judy
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a guest room Judy…one room that would perfect all the time…no bed making or laundry lingering on the floor. That sounds dreamy at Christmastime or anytime!! :)
DeleteSimple and lovely....
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tessa. :)
DeleteIt's just enough. :) I try not to get the decor in the way, especially in a small space.
ReplyDeleteI have almost the same green walls in my bedroom too and that adds a festive element too. :) xoxo Su
Thanks Su! I love that green. It’s great all year round, isn’t it? xo
DeleteYour pretty white bedding is the perfect backdrop for sweet little touches of Christmas! Looks merry and bright!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carol. I just love white bedding, it’s the perfect backdrop all year long! :)
DeleteLove the color of the bedroom and the bedding really makes the color pop! Have a wonderful time preparing for this most wonderful time of the year!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lynn. I am having fun! :)
DeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteYour room is so serene and soothing, and I love the garland on your window!
xo
Jemma
Thanks Jemma. I really do love this room. Too bad my eyes are closed most of the time when I’m in here! ;)
DeleteOur bedroom has light linens and sage green walls too, but I like your green color much better.
ReplyDeleteI don't decorate the bedroom for Christmas, but if I did I'd do something similar to what you've done. Simple and pretty :).
Green is a nice color for a bedroom, isn't it Doreen? Very soothing!
DeleteLovely Kim......it just looks serene and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI put a little garland over the top of the headboard and a bow here and there. My cactus blooms in the window are spectacular this year, so I guess I am finished!
Oh I forgot....I let Santa hang his hat on the bedpost ;^)
Blessings,
J
Well, Santa needs a place to hang his hat! ;-)
DeleteYour bed is stunning, Kim, and I love the simple garland over the window. And all the other simple touches are perfect, too. This has a very Scandinavian feel, which I think you know I love. I haven't decorated our bedroom this year, though I am working on a winter quilt in Christmas colors. It won't be done by Christmas. Maybe next year. xo ~ Nancy
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of making your own quilt, Nancy. I told myself that I was going to sit and knit or learn to crochet this season by the light of the tree. Hasn’t happened…like you said, maybe by next Christmas! ;)
