Make a festive wooden sign for Christmas with a sticker.
Earlier this fall, I made a sign celebrating the season with a cheap wall art sticker. I just placed it on a painted pine board and I had a custom sign. It was a quick, easy and inexpensive DIY project with rock star results.
I mentioned that come holiday time I would flip the board over and use the back to create a Christmas sign...and that's just what I did.
I picked up another pretty sticker (there were several to choose from) and painted the back of the board a soft ivory color.
I turned the board upside down, so that the top of the board would be ivory, matching the Christmas sign and when flipped for fall, it would be orange.
I did paint the sides ivory.
I may have to paint them orange next fall...or I may be ready for a new sign by then and repaint the whole board a completely different color.
At two bucks a sticker, I can afford to be frivolous!
When the paint was dry, I added the sticker. I could've been done there, but this sign was just asking for a little more, so I dabbed a bit of red paint around the perimeter of the board.
It's a very subtle detail, but adds a little kick.
*One important note...in certain lights, a bit of shine can be seen coming off the sticker itself. This can be eliminated by using a coat of clear sealer or decoupage gel.
I did not do this, since it doesn't bother me and as I stated earlier, I am fickle. I want to be able to remove the sticker and replace it. If you are looking for a more permanent piece, I would seal it.
I'm very happy with the way this one turned out. It certainly is festive!
Not bad for two bucks!
What do you think?

ReplyDeleteThanks Sally! You made me laugh! :) The turning it upside down thing came out of my obsession with saving money and my lack of storage space! Thanks for the comment!

DeleteI cannot find these stickers at my Michael's! I searched all over when you posted about your Autumn sign. I even asked for help while I was there and employees couldn't find them either! Where did you find them??
ReplyDeleteThat is a bummer! They had them in two of my Michael's stores in both fall and winter, several different styles in fact. They are the Celebrate It brand. They were hanging in the middle of the holiday décor areas. I am in the northeast, but I would think they carry them across the country. I googled them to no avail, but I did just post on the Michael's FB page to see if I could get any answers that way! I will keep you posted!
DeleteA friend of mine just used the idea to made a sign and she picked up her wall art stickers at Dollar Tree. I have not looked there, but she found several pretty ones. Perhaps that's an option?
I did receive a response via FB and they stated that holiday items sell out early...hmmm. Guess I was just in the right place at the right time. Twice! Let me know if you run across them. I am very curious now.
Deletelove love love! I've got a piece of wood itchin' to be made into a sign such as yours!!

Thanks Andrea...it's super easy. Apparently the hard part is trying to track down those stickers! If you try it, let me know...or post it on my FB page! I would love to see it!
