There's A Blogging Award?

Being recognized with a blogging award was a fun to be introduced to readers and the blogging community at large.

I loved sharing facts all about me, Kim from Exquisitely Unremarkable.

Medallion Shaped Liebster Award

This morning, while I was dressing a set for a local theater company, my phone went off.

Waiting for me was a Facebook message from a blogging friend, telling me that she had nominated me for a Liebster Award!

I was excited, yay, an award, but then I was confused.

As a blogging newbie, I had absolutely no idea what it was...

Apparently, The Liebster is an award given to new bloggers by other new bloggers, in a sort of chain letter fashion. And I've been lucky enough to receive it more than once.

While the game has long since fallen out of fashion, I decided to leave my answers up for those that are interested in reading about me.

Maybe we have some things in common!

What would your answers be?

Here are the answers to my 11 Questions:

1. Why and when did you begin blogging?

I started blogging in March of 2013

I wanted to focus on finding beauty and grace in every day.  I thought blogging would force me to do so.

2. What is your best blogging tip?

There are so many experienced bloggers out there writing great "How To" posts...read them.

You really don't need to pay for advice when you get started. And then follow your gut and do what feels right to you, carve your own path.

3. Which do you prefer- Blogger or WordPress? Why?

I'm a Blogger gal.

I did switch to WordPress a few years ago, but I was hacked and it was a mess so I moved back and have been super happy.

2020 Update: I have a new theme now, it's super fast and you'd never know I was on Blogger. Not that I'm hiding it. But honestly I'm still super happy.

4. What books have you read recently?

Bronte Sister Classic Books by the pool

Yikes, it's been a long time since I read an actual book. Some of my favorites are Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer and Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell.

This summer my daughter and I read The Secret Garden. I'd never read it before and it was wonderful. I'm looking forward to a movie version. Oh yeah, this was a book question

Can you recommend a good one?

5. What is something that you’ve learned recently?

A lot about the managing a music artist as my girls recently recorded and released their first single

Update: Their newest single is due out soon, they've been signed to global publishing company as professional songwriters and boy oh boy, I've learned even more about the biz.

6. What do you do in your free time?

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  There never seems to be enough time to just be with each other.

7. How did you meet your husband/significant other?

Although we didn't start dating until much later, we met through a mutual friend at a roller skating rink when we were thirteen.

We were friends forever and then in college we started dating

8. What is your biggest accomplishment?

I would say that it has something to do with my raising my children, but that job is never done, so I would say getting my Master's Degree in Elementary Education.

Or maybe starting this blog...which has turned into a business. Unexpected for sure.

9. What is your favorite food?

Pizza, pizza, pizza!  Did I mention that my favorite food is pizza?

Cheesecake With Brownie Bottom Crust on table with whipped cream and chocolate chips

Oh and cheesecake. You can't just have one favorite.

10. What is your favorite movie? Why?

Hmmm... tough one, one of my favorite movies is Moonstruck.  I'm Italian and so much of what I see on the screen resembles my early memories of family life. I also love opera, romance and smart comedy...happy endings rate big with me too.

When Harry Met Sally is a close second. So many great lines.

Um...anything black and white. Bonus points if it stars Bette Davis.

Oh...and Jaws. Talk about some great one liners!

11. Are you a homemaker or career woman? Why?

Thanks to blogging I'm currently a freelance writer and small business owner.

I was a homemaker for about fifteen years in between leaving my job and starting the blog.

Kindness Matters needlework in a frame

I taught elementary school and loved every second of it, but when the babies came, I resigned.

Here are 11 Random Facts About Me!

1. I had a 20 year old cat with one eye named Scarlett.
2. I live in the same small town where I grew up.
3. I hardly ever watch TV.
4. I have a weakness for classic rock music and I listen to it very loud when no one else is home.
5. I live in a 1920's beach cottage and adore summer.
6. My daughters co-wrote an album that was produced by Adrian Young from No Doubt.
7. I'm a huge fan of old black and white movies (and I quote them often!).
8. French is my favorite foreign language. I took it in school for seven years.
9. I originally went to college for fashion design and did PR work in NYC.
10. I was the costume designer for a local theater company.
11. I had absolutely no internet presence (no Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest) until I started blogging.

So do we have anything in common? This girl wants to know.

Happy Days, Friends!

  9. I found your blog award post interesting , especially your answers to the questions. Mine would not quite be the same.
I have been blogging since 2014 , can't remember why I started it, but boy am I glad I did. I would like to do better at it and, ultimately reach more people, but that seems to be beyond me.
